Investing is something that many people can learn how to do, yet it seems that more men than women are investing their money.

So why are less women investing their money? It comes down to three main reasons – women get paid less, they lack confidence and they are generally more risk-averse. What if there was a book that taught you how to invest in property that puts cash in your pocket, that puts you in control of your finances, and allowed you to have more disposable income at the end of every month.

In Bricks for Chicks, seasoned and savvy property investor Tanya Haffern introduces budding investors to property investment, demystifies industry lingo and outlines the basic strategies investors can employ to maximise returns. With this step-by-step, practical – and fun! – guide, Tanya aims to inspire and encourage women to start and grow their own property portfolio, and increase their financial skill set to acquire the confidence to become financially independent.

If you are looking for invaluable insights from a battle-sharpened, clued-up, kick-ass chick who doesn’t pull any punches and, at the same time, will inspire you to succeed in property investment, then you’re in luck! Bricks for Chicks was written for you.

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY THIS BOOK:

  • A step-by-step, practical guide that will inspire and encourage readers to start and grow their own property portfolio.
  • The author has taught thousands of people across South Africa how to invest in property.
  • Entertaining, conversational language that demystifies complex concepts.
  • Uses case studies to explain complex concepts in a light-hearted, easy-to-understand way.
  • Focuses exclusively on the South African market.

Bricks for Chicks is available at all leading book stores at only R200 a copy.

The OKTOBERFEST In Munich Returns In 2022

Germany’s most well-known festival is back and the 187th Oktoberfest on the Theresienwiese will run from September 17 to October 3, without limitations. Dieter Reiter, the Lord Mayor of Munich, made the announcement earlier this year.

The Oktoberfest, which has been hosted annually since 1810, is a significant component of Bavarian culture. During the 16-day festival in 2014, 7.7-million litres of beer were consumed and the event see’s well over 6.3-million guests attend.

The first novelties for the Wiesn 2022 have already been implemented; in mid-May, the city council approved new opening times for the Wiesn: During the week, booths and performers may open one hour earlier than usual, at 9am. Additionally, until 10:30pm, the tents at the Oidn Wiesn can open. This gives visitors an additional hour to finish their last beer. With the term “Schützenlisl,” Lorenz Stiftl adopts a new concept for the Volkssängerzelt at the Oidn Wiesn.

The festival has been officially kicked off every year since 1950 with the identical ritual: the Munich mayor taps the first keg of Oktoberfest beer at noon and declares, “O’zapft is!” (In the Austro-Bavarian dialect, “It’s tapped!”). The Minister-President of the State of Bavaria is then given the first litre of beer by the mayor.

Netflix released ‘Oktoberfest: Beer & Blood’ in English globally, which provides a bit of fact and fiction around the evolution of this major festival.

Yellow for Survivors is an NPC, founded by Leilani Kuter in 2019. Image: Yellow For Survivors

Yellow for Survivors was established to provide survivors of rape and gender-based violence with resources to find the support they need for healing after severe, life-changing experiences. These resources are provided through fundraisers and include self-defence training, counselling and dedication walks, giving a voice to the voiceless.

30-years ago, Leilani experienced her life-changing experience and in 2022, has come full circle in dealing with her own rape and gender-based violence story. Her annual walk on the September 17, looks to raise funds, helping those affected by GBV will be a 30km walk from Bidon Bistro in Muldersdrift.

If 30km is too much, participants are welcome to walk any distance that they choose or join a self-defence class at 10am. To participate in the self-defence class, a donation of a minimum of R50 would be appreciated. As Yellow for Survivors moves its emphasis to prevention and treatment, the annual September 17 walk will be the last. The non-profit organization will begin focusing on the prevention and treatment of GBV in 2022 and beyond by providing free self-defense lessons and free counseling sessions.

Bookings are essential. Email corlize@yellowforsurvivors.co.za or leilani@yellowforsurvivors.co.za for more.
