During a recent trip to Cape Town, The Sandton Times took the opportunity to eat at the famed La Petite Colombe in Franschhoek. Having enjoyed much of the other La Colombe fine dining experiences, from the original La Colombe in Constantia, to PIER and The Waterside at the V&A Waterfront, it was time to visit this gem in the heart of one of the country’s most beautiful towns.

While its predecessor has long been recognized as one of the best restaurants in the country, La Petite Colombe brings its own unique charm and culinary prowess to the table. Apart from being situated in the most gorgeous surroundings, neighbouring the iconic Everard Read Franschhoek gallery, Le Petite Colombe delivers equally as much beauty on the plate.

Nestled within the picturesque Leeu Estates, La Petite Colombe embodies the essence of ‘location with a sense of place’. With panoramic views overlooking the Franschhoek Valley and the Franschhoek Pass, diners are treated to a visual feast that complements the culinary delights on offer, perfectly poised to showcase the beauty of its surroundings.

Stepping inside, we’re greeted by an interior that seamlessly blends with the natural landscape and some welcoming canapes that set the tone for what lies ahead. Inspired by the raw materials of the earth, the design ethos of La Petite Colombe reflects the idea of transforming nature’s bounty into exquisite craftsmanship. Every detail, from the bespoke dove feather fabric to the subtle dove sculptures, pays homage to the restaurant’s heritage while creating an ambiance of understated elegance, with a touch of theatre for good measure.
