The long-expected wait is over. The arrival of Amazon to South Africa marks a new evolution in South Africa’s multi-billion Rand online sales economy. Amazon.co.za has entered the market promising a reliable and convenient shopping experience. Additionally, the ecommerce giant is offering first-time customers free delivery on their initial purchase.

With a vast array of product categories, including Consumer Electronics, Sporting Equipment, Toys, and Home Appliances, Amazon.co.za caters to diverse consumer preferences. From international giants like Apple and Sony to beloved local brands such as Amanda-Jayne and King Kong Leather, the platform aims to offer something for everyone. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration, the top e-Commerce product category in South Africa is data and airtime followed by clothing, apparel and online entertainment.

The launch of Amazon.co.za looks not only to benefit online shoppers but also presents an opportunity for South African-based independent sellers. Whether small or large, these businesses can now access the platform to showcase their products and expand their reach. By tapping into Amazon’s notable network and resources, local sellers will be able to scale their operations and connect with a broader audience.

Through a collaboration, customers have the opportunity to support local businesses while contributing to initiatives that uplift communities across South Africa, like Amazon’s partnership with goGOGOgo, a South African non-profit organization dedicated to empowering grandmothers (GOGOs) and the children they raise.

Today is only the start of Amazon.co.za. We will continue to improve and enhance our shopping experience to serve customers and sellers across South Africa.
