In the ever-evolving landscape of the global music scene, Africa stands as a “fount of brilliant musical offerings,” as eloquently stated by Harvey Mason Jnr., CEO of The Recording Academy. The 66th Grammy Awards underscore Africa’s growing influence, with an array of nominees, winners and the introduction of a ground-breaking category – ‘Best African Music Performance’ won by Johannesburg-born singer Tyla for ‘Water’.

Six remarkable African artists, who have undeniably reshaped the world’s perception of African music, fought for the coveted Grammy in this newly minted category.

Adam Byars, Joint CEO and Partner of Grid Worldwide and 608 Experiences, a familiar face at the Grammys, emphasized the profound impact of African culture on music. African music is deep etched in a culture that is raw, real, and unrefined. This cultural authenticity not only shapes the music produced across the continent but also resonates powerfully with a global audience.

As part of the Grammy Museum panel, Adam joined forces with Grammy award-winner Zakes Bantwini and Sibo Mhlungu, business partner and manager at Independent Media Group Africa (IMG). This trio is dedicated to shedding light on the rise and influence of African music on the global stage.

Zakes and Adam, collaborators for the past 3 years, are committed to propelling South African and African music forward. Together, they curate a creative collective aimed at nurturing emerging talent while empowering individuals and brands to find meaning through music and cultural experiences.

The panellists, all hailing from South Africa, tackled the discourse on Africa’s creative force, showcasing the continent’s vibrant contributions to the global music narrative. With a shared vision, they assert Africa’s place as a formidable player in the ever-expanding realm of global music.
