The Sandton Convention Centre will host the AKA Memorial service for the deceased rapper Kiernan Forbes, better known as AKA, this afternoon.

The nation has been engulfed with grief over the news of the tragic and untimely passing of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, with an outpouring of support and love for the Forbes family from South Africa and beyond. With the complimentary tickets to the AKA Memorial finished, no further tickets to be issued at the door, fans, friends and followers are encouraged to watch proceedings online.

The memorial service will start at 3pm, and is expected to end at about 6pm. Officers from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) will be sent out to manage and implement traffic restrictions in the area of the Sandton Convention Centre (SCC). Maude and Fifth Streets, Maude and West Streets, Alice and Fifth Streets, West and Katherine Streets, and West and Rivonia Road are among the affected roads.

 

AKA emerged as a major figure in South African music in the early 2000’s. He was also known for his unique style and flow, which set him apart from other rappers in the country. The multi-award winning artist was an inspiration to many aspiring musicians and an icon of South African culture.

 

AKA, considered to be one of the most influential and successful rappers in South African hip-hop, leaves behind a legacy and impact on the genre which will be remembered for many years to come. His much anticipated final album, THE MASS COUNTRY will be released on February 24, 2023 as planned.
