Students To March To The JSE In Sandton On January 28

The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) is set to march on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) in Sandton, to demand the largest stock exchange in Africa contribute R10-billion towards free tertiary education.

 

  • COSAS will be marching to and from George Lea Park in Sandton.
  • The march is expected to start at 11am on Friday, January 28.

Around 1500 demonstrators are expected to arrive in 31 buses at George Lea Park at around 10am and march to the JSE in the heart of Sandton, to hand over a memorandum to Vuyo Lee, Director: Marketing & Corporate Affairs at the JSE.

 

The memorandum is expected to be handed over at midday, with crowds dispersing and returning to George Lea Park, by 2pm. The marching route affected will be Sandton Drive, Grayston Drive, West Street, Fredman Drive, Gwen Lane, and Maude Street.

 

Delays are expected along the demonstration route and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), as well as South African Police Service (SAPS) public order policing, will be monitoring and escorting the demonstrators.
