Spirit Of 1743

Moët & Chandon’s ‘Spirit Of 1743’ Takes Flight In Sandton

A cork-shaped hot air balloon, which has visited 21 countries in its lifetime including Japan, Australia, and the USA, arrived in Sandton for the first time to launch the Moët & Chandon Golden Glow experience.

  • Whilst the hot air balloon didn’t travel anywhere per se, it provided a unique vantage point to view Sandton’s golden hour.
  • Guests raised a glass at 17:43, in recognition of the founding year of the House and the closing of the day.
  • Moët & Chandon was founded in 1743 and is considered to be one of the world’s leading champagne brands.

As the sun started setting on Sandton, friends of Moët & Chandon gathered at the Inanda Polo Club’s manicured fields, to raise a glass on the first flight of the ‘Spirit of 1743’, which a select few worldwide have been able to experience.

The ‘Spirit of 1743’ is an ambassador of Moët & Chandon’s heritage and since its maiden voyage in 1990, the ‘Spirit of 1743’s has journeyed around the globe, traversing the skies of the world’s great capitals and iconic landmarks including the Great Wall of China, the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower.
