Radisson RED Rosebank

5 LITTLE-KNOWN THINGS ABOUT THE RADISSON RED ROSEBANK

Originally earmarked to open in February 2021, the Radisson RED Rosebank is set to open its doors in Oxford Parks, a vibrant mixed-use precinct comprising premium offices, apartments and supporting retail and restaurants.

  • The Radisson RED brand is known to present a playful twist on the conventional.
  • This is the fourth Radisson brand in Johannesburg, alongside Radisson Blu, Park Inn by Radisson in Sandton and Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre.
  • As of February 2020, there are 8 Radisson Red in operation with another 34 under development globally.

Rosebank is considered to be one of the fastest growing business precincts in Johannesburg with strong artistic influences, trendy eateries and an ever changing residential landscape. The hotel is deemed to be the first internationally branded lifestyle hotel in Johannesburg.

When it opens in June this year, Radisson RED Rosebank will bring the somewhat unconventional to the city. To help you navigate the deliciously different, The Sandton Times has compiled a quick crib sheet, ahead of the debut of the international hotel brand in Johannesburg:

Radisson RED Rosebank

1. RADISSON RED ROSEBANK WILL BE THE SECOND RADISSON RED IN SOUTH AFRICA
Following in the footsteps of its sister hotel in Cape Town, Radisson RED Rosebank will be the second hotel under the RED brand to open in Africa – it won’t be the last one either. Radisson hopes that this latest edition to the family will support the rollout of future RED’s across South Africa and the region.

2. THE HOTEL WILL BOAST A PULSATING ROOFTOP BAR AND TERRACE
If you have ever been to the Radisson RED in Cape Town, you will know what to expect. Well, not scenic views of Table Mountain, sunsets glistening off the Silo Hotel or sounds of sea-gulls entering the Cape Town harbour – we are in Johannesburg after all. Yet what you can expect is craft meals and beverages, with a good vibe. The Cape Town RED even has its own food truck come bar on the roof, serving up everything from burgers to pizza’s, colourful cocktails and late night dance tracks.

3. THE GENERAL MANAGER IS CALLED A CURATOR
Much like an art gallery or a museum, the hotel’s general manager is tasked with curating the environment and experience guests have from start to finish. Carly de Jong has been named Curator, aka General Manager of the Radisson RED Rosebank hotel. A highly accomplished hospitality professional, Carly cut her teeth on prestigious global hotel brands and will now be at the forefront of the REDvolution, bringing her experience, creativity and sophistication to the position.

4. STAFF ARE CALLED CREATIVES AT RADISSON RED
We’ve heard of creative accounting, but these are very different kind of creatives, working across a myriad of different tasks. As part of its recruitment drive, the Radisson RED Rosebank opted for a showcase instead of an interview, with candidates having to submit a video clip of themselves along with a CV. Those successful enough to get through the first round, moved on to a “casting day” where a live DJ set the tone for potential future employees to get creative, and show how they can bring a little theatre to the everyday task of housekeeping, bartending, front desk managing and eventing.

5. RADISSON RED HAS A DOG FRIENDLY POLICY
Pets are welcome at all Radisson RED hotels and can indulge in their own nibbles, water bowl and bed for the night, along with the rest of their human family. The rate is R250 to have your pooch join you and there are no offer limits when it comes to small dogs.

For those of you who have experienced Radisson RED in other locations such as Cape Town, expect to feel at home in our flexible and creative hotel – with an upscale Rosebank edge. If you’ve never experienced RED before, we welcome you to wander in for an after-work drink on the rooftop, spend the day working from our OUIBar + KTCHN or check in for a staycation in one of our 222 stylish and bold rooms.

The hotel brand is distinct with quirky meeting spaces, offering six event studios, a conference room as well as a large meeting room, each with high speed Wi-Fi, up-to-date technology and creative spaces to help inspire.
