Water Maintenance In Sandton – What To Expect On Thursday

As we kick off the new year, residents and businesses in Sandton will need to brace themselves for a temporary disruption in water supply.

  • Rand Water has announced an unplanned maintenance schedule that will impact the Sandton system.
  • The maintenance starts on 11 January 2024 at 5pm, and should last until 12 January 2024 at 1pm.
  • The primary reason for this maintenance is the replacement of a broken isolation valve at the Sandton 1 meter.

While inconvenience is inevitable during such repairs, the long-term benefits of a reliable water system outweigh the temporary disruptions, advises Rand Water.

Both Sandton 1 and 2 meters will be closed during the maintenance period. Consequently, there will be no water supply entering the Sandton areas, as the water will be isolated or closed throughout the duration of the repairs. The impact on residents is expected to be primarily low pressure; however, some areas, particularly those at higher elevations, may experience a complete lack of water.

To minimize the inconvenience caused by the maintenance, alternative water supply measures will be put in place if deemed necessary, according to Johannesburg Water.

The full list of suburbs supplied by the affected systems includes Bryanston reservoir, Bryanston tower, Illovo reservoir, Illovo tower, Morningside reservoir, Linbro Park reservoir, Marlboro reservoir, Linbro Park direct feed, and Marlboro direct feed. Residents in these areas should prepare for the temporary water supply interruption and consider storing water for essential needs during the maintenance period.

The broken isolation valve being replaced is a critical component in the water supply infrastructure, and addressing it promptly is crucial to prevent potential larger issues down the line. By conducting maintenance during this specified timeframe, Rand Water aims to minimize the impact on residents while ensuring the long-term reliability of the water supply systems. Once the repairs are successfully completed on Friday, all reservoirs will be steadily filled.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to plan accordingly and utilize alternative water supply options if needed. The short-term inconvenience will result in an anticipated robust and more dependable water infrastructure for the Sandton area in the long run.
