After receiving well-deserved industry recognition in 2022, including a constellation of stars at the 2022 Eat Out Awards, and being awarded both one- and two-plate awards at the JHP Gourmet Guide awards, Luke Dale Roberts is seizing the opportunity to make bold changes to the group’s landscape within the next few months.
After an incredibly exciting year I have made the decision to expand the highly successful Pot Luck Club brand within the country, reinventing The Test Kitchen Carbon in Johannesburg as the brand’s first location outside Cape Town. The Pot Luck Club’s energetic, fun atmosphere and excellent high-level offering is the perfect recipe for the city’s dining scene. It will also give guests the freedom to order what they love and allow the team to fully exercise their creativity.

Test Kitchen Carbon Head Chef Tyron Gentry will spend time in Cape Town, immersing himself in The Pot Luck Club experience, before the opening of the Johannesburg space, which will take place in April 2023. Jason Kosmas, Executive Chef and driving force behind The Pot Luck Club Cape Town, will head up The Pot Luck Club brand, working closely with Tyron Gentry, to create innovative new dishes for the Johannesburg location.
The Pot Luck Club’s menu has always been easy and accessible, while remaining high-end. We will honour much-loved Cape Town classics on the Johannesburg menu but will also be adding inventive new plates, allowing Tyron to express himself. He is hungry to learn, and I have great faith in him to lead the team at The Pot Luck Club in Johannesburg.

Also joining the Johannesburg team is Grey Tawanda, who will take on the manager’s role at The Pot Luck Club there. Grey was the longest-serving manager at The Pot Luck Club in Cape Town before the pandemic, and his return is greatly anticipated.
I am very happy to have Grey back and taking on the challenge in Johannesburg. He will bring his inimitable style and energy to the experience.
