  • The exclusive breakfast session brought together key South African media representatives for an in-depth discussion on the archipelago’s upcoming developments.
  • These include major events, and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening its position as a popular holiday destination.
  • A key aspect of the briefing was the detailed preview of Seychelles’ 2025 sporting calendar, which promises to elevate the island’s status as a hub for world-class sporting events.

During the session, Sherin unveiled a series of landmark initiatives, including the launch of new luxury hotel developments, a diverse collection of boutique properties, and an emphasis on small homegrown tourism products. A major highlight was the introduction of the Seychelles Tourism Grading Programme, designed to reinforce the country’s commitment to maintaining high standards across its hospitality sector. These initiatives align with Seychelles’ dedication to sustainable tourism while ensuring visitors experience the best accommodations and services in the Indian Ocean paradise.

Among the most highly anticipated events this year is the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Seychelles 2025, marking the first time the tournament will be hosted by a CAF member association. Following the success of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup UAE 2024 Dubai, which attracted over 70’000 spectators, the upcoming edition in Seychelles is expected to deliver an electrifying atmosphere, bringing the high-energy sport to an even wider audience.

Since its inception in 2005, the tournament has grown in popularity and is renowned for its fast-paced, action-packed format that consistently delivers more goals per match than any other variation of football. Beach soccer’s simplicity and entertainment value make it an accessible and engaging experience for both players and spectators, ensuring a thrilling event for fans of all ages.

Seychelles will also be hosting the Seychelles Challenge, an exhilarating seven-day, six-night sailing competition designed to showcase the archipelago’s stunning islands and pristine waters. This event invites participants to race aboard chartered catamarans from Sunsail and The Moorings, with options for bareboat or local skipper charters. The challenge is as much about adventure and camaraderie as it is about competition, with daily prize-giving ceremonies and special functions taking place at exotic locations across the islands. The Seychelles Challenge further cements the destination’s reputation as a world-class sailing hub, attracting enthusiasts looking to combine sport with the breath-taking beauty of the Indian Ocean.

Another major highlight of Seychelles’ events calendar is the Seychelles Nature Trail, an exciting 22-kilometre trail run. This challenging yet rewarding race takes participants through some of the most picturesque landscapes in Seychelles, offering a unique opportunity to explore the archipelago’s lush nature and exceptional biodiversity. The carefully curated route, which mirrors the highly praised course from the previous year, is designed to test endurance while allowing runners to fully immerse themselves in the natural beauty that makes Seychelles such a sought-after destination for eco-tourism and outdoor enthusiasts.

In addition to these sporting events, Seychelles will also celebrate the 40th edition of the Festival Kreol in October 2025. As one of the most iconic socio-cultural events on the island’s calendar, the festival is a vibrant tribute to the Creole heritage of Seychelles, featuring music, dance, art, and culinary delights. Sherin emphasised the country’s commitment to ensuring that this milestone edition of the festival remains an unforgettable experience for both locals and international visitors, reinforcing the unique cultural identity of the islands.

Seychelles’ tourism landscape is also set to be transformed by a selection of new luxury hotels, each designed to offer unparalleled experiences in some of the most breath-taking locations in the archipelago. One of the most anticipated openings is the Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island, an intimate collection of 50 seafront villas offering personal concierge services. Designed with inspiration from the shell of the hawksbill turtle, the resort’s faceted villas create airy canopies that blend seamlessly with the island’s natural surroundings. Each villa is strategically positioned to maintain an undisturbed environment for sea turtles to nest, reinforcing the resort’s commitment to environmental preservation while providing an exclusive and luxurious retreat for travellers.

Adding to Seychelles’ growing portfolio of high-end accommodations is the Canopy by Hilton Seychelles, the first-ever resort property under the Canopy by Hilton brand. Located in the south of Mahé, the resort offers 120 guest rooms infused with local design elements, creating an authentic experience that highlights the unique charm of the island. A short drive from the renowned Jardin du Roi (Spice Garden) and the tranquil Anse à la Mouche beach, the resort provides a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, catering to families and travellers seeking a true escape.

Another eagerly awaited opening is Cheval Blanc Seychelles, the sixth Maison Cheval Blanc property worldwide. Nestled along the pristine shores of Anse Intendance beach, this luxurious retreat features 52 stunning villas, each offering uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. With 24 villas set along the white sandy beach and 28 hidden within the lush green hills, the resort harmonizes contemporary architecture with Seychellois nature, creating an immersive experience of serenity and refinement. Designed by the renowned Jean-Michel Gathy, who was also responsible for the Cheval Blanc Randheli in the Maldives, the property promises an unparalleled standard of luxury, with each villa boasting a private 12.5-metre swimming pool. Whether visiting as a couple, family, or group of friends, guests can expect a sophisticated yet intimate stay that redefines indulgence.

During the media briefing, Sherin reiterated the importance of engaging with the South African market, highlighting its significance as a key source of visitors to Seychelles. She expressed confidence that the exciting developments and events planned for 2025 would not only enhance the island’s tourism offering but also create valuable opportunities for cultural exchange and economic growth.

Whether through the adrenaline of beach soccer, the thrill of a sailing challenge, the serenity of a nature trail, or the indulgence of a world-class resort, Seychelles hopes to deliver an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of paradise in 2025.
