As the old idioms goes: ‘Now we’re cooking with gas!’, meaning hyper-success at a certain venture, it’s no mistake that gas has always been associated with being one step ahead of the rest, and let’s be honest, there is something magical about a kitchen with a gas stove. Yet warming up some food or getting some water heated for tonight’s pasta dish isn’t the only use for gas. Heaters, geysers, braai’s, fireplaces and generators at home, can all be powered by gas, whilst furnaces, production lines, spray dying, bakery ovens and more, can keep going in your business powered by gas.

In an interview on The Sandton Times Podcast, Managing Director of Egoli Gas, Vishal Pooran highlighted the safety aspects of using gas.

Like with any other energy source, you have to treat it with respect. As long as you respect the energy source it’s as safe as houses. The appliances you get nowadays have got various safety devices built-in, so if it is not lit i.e. ignite the gas, there is a cut-off that shuts-off the gas, if there is a concentration over a certain limit. So it is really safe in a house. As far as our installation goes, from the street to the meter, there are shut-off valves in the street as well as a shut-off valve just after the meter, so if there is any problem downstream of that, we are able to close that valve and fix the issue.
