SUN CITY REOPENS FOR MIDWEEK DAY VISITORS

Sun City Resort has reopened for day visitors looking to soak up the last rays of summer between Monday to Friday, starting 8 March 2021. Following the presidential announcement end of February 2021, the popular getaway for those living in Sandton will be reopening The Valley of Waves for day visitors, however tickets are limited per day and can only be purchased online (not at the gate) to manage guest numbers.

  • Before reopening the facility, maintenance crew upgraded all the wave generating mechanisms to ensure they are operating to full capacity.
  • The adult pool contains approximately 1-million litres of water whilst the wave pool contains 10-million litres of water and creates swells high enough for surfing, as they move away from the dam wall at 35km per hour to subside onto a sandy beach, 120m away.
  • Every year roughly 10 tons of sand is needed to top up the valley, and a further 50 tons is needed to rake around the extended beach area.
  • Visit www.sandtontimes.co.za for more stories.

Capacity is restricted due to COVID-19 regulations therefore, a limited amount of tickets are available via online purchase only and no tickets will be sold at the Sun City Resort gate.

Packages are available at a cost of R290 per child, aged 3 – 12 years and R395 per adult. Tickets include entry to Sun City, entry to the Valley of Waves and R80 meal voucher which can be redeemed at food outlets at Valley of Waves as well as participating outlets in Sun Central.

Sun City promises much to see and do as a day visitor, from discovering the thrills at The Valley of Waves to getting lost in the Maze of the Lost City. For the adrenaline junkies, there are the two slides – the Tarantula and the Scorpion, and two tube rides – the Viper and the Mamba. The legendary Roaring Lagoon at The Valley of Waves is the undisputed main attraction at the Sun City’s famous water park, with a two metre bender waves every 90-seconds.

New  experiences that were added in 2014, following Sun City’s R1-billion refurbishment, include Boomerango and Aqualoop rides, bringing the water attractions to six rides in total now.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Valley of Waves attracted over 1-million visitors a year – 10’000 per weekend, with a maximum capacity of 12’000.
