Haute Afrika With Founder Gracia Bampile

Gracia Bampile is not just a fashion entrepreneur; she’s a visionary with an inspiring story that began long before she turned 10. Born in July 1991, Gracia had her “aha moment” on her birthday when her parents gifted her an African print dress that she found unappealing. Instead of accepting the status quo, this moment sparked a desire in her to create her own clothes, leading her to start designing at just eight years old.
Gracia spent countless hours with her seamstress grandmother, mastering the art of clothing design. As she grew, she became increasingly aware of the limited perception of African print designs. Many saw these vibrant patterns as suitable only for special occasions, not for everyday wear. Determined to change this narrative, Gracia took it upon herself to make African prints a staple in day-to-day fashion.
In 2015, Gracia founded Haute Afrika, a brand dedicated to redefining African fashion. Haute Afrika quickly became known for its unique, everyday African print designs, crafted from high-quality materials sourced from across the continent. Gracia’s designs are more than just clothing—they’re a celebration of Africa’s rich history, heritage, and stories, designed for Africans from Cape to Cairo.
Despite holding an International Relations degree and having no formal fashion training, Gracia has established herself as a trendsetter in the fashion industry. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed – Haute Afrika has dressed some of Africa’s biggest stars, including Thuso Mbedu, Boity, and Natasha Thahane, and has been featured in prestigious publications like Vogue and BBC World.
Gracia Bampile is a shining example of an African entrepreneur who dares to challenge societal norms and set her own trends. As she continues to disrupt the fashion industry, her name is one you won’t want to forget.
