Monster Energy Ultra Fantasy Ruby Red With South African Artist Mark ‘Pinky’ Taylor
Monster Energy Ultra launched Fantasy Ruby Red in March 2024, the latest zero-sugar flavour joining the Monster Energy Ultra line-up, featuring a first-of-its-kind immersive augmented reality (AR) experience that reveals custom can art. In Venice, Los Angeles, visitors to the vibrant hub of Abbot Kinney Boulevard were greeted by a 10-foot-tall Monster Ultra can installation, transporting them to a mixed-reality world where the characters on the new textured cans, designed by artist Mark ‘Pinky’ Taylor, came to life.
Born and raised among the waves of South Africa, Pinky Taylor began his artistic journey at the age of three and held his first exhibition in Japan at age eight. His love for surfing inspired him to combine his passions, leading him to create intricate doodles on surfboards. Since moving to California with his band six years ago, Pinky has continued to flourish creatively. His artistic style, heavily influenced by the vibrant textures of music, bursts with color and dimension.
Duality pulses through the energy of life’s veins, a perpetual dance of contrasts. The characters, who embody good and evil, show how kindness and embracing self-love can bring harmony to the world. Seeing my artwork in animation through AR was a first – a cool experience to mark the launch of this flavour.

Two of South Africa’s award-winning chefs, Chef Wandile Mabaso and Chef Johannes Richter, are set to join forces for a unique two-day culinary collaboration in greater Sandton.
The collaboration will take place over two dinner services on 19 and 20 July 2024. Chef Johannes Richter, known for his critically acclaimed restaurant The LivingRoom at Summerhill Guest Estate in Cowies Hill, Durban, will head to Sandton to cook alongside Chef Wandile Mabaso at his esteemed Bryanston restaurant, Les Creatifs.
