The Sandton Times joined a select team of media and content creators in touring the world class Heineken Sedibeng Brewery, getting a first look (and taste) of how Heineken Silver is brewed and packaged – and what a fascinating walkabout it was!
Heineken International’s flagship products, including the iconic Heineken Original, are brewed at the Sedibeng Brewery, making them readily available to the local market. The new standout addition to Heineken’s portfolio is Heineken Silver, a premium lager brewed using a unique ice-cold lagering process at an astonishing -1°C, which is half as biter as normal beer and considered easier to drink.
What sets Heineken Silver apart is not just its temperature, but the meticulous brewing process. The -1°C brewing temperature allows for the formation of more cold haze, which is then filtered out. This filtration process removes proteins and rough-tasting tannins, resulting in a beer with a delightfully refreshing taste and a crisp, subtle finish. The signature fruit aroma of Heineken Original is retained, creating a unique 4% premium lager that appeals to a broad spectrum of consumers.
Heineken Silver maintains the same commitment to quality and natural ingredients that Heineken is known for. This was evident during an extensive tour around the brewing facility, from barley to bar-counter, showcasing technology, people, ingredients and packaging process that makes picking up a can or bottle at your local outlet, possible.
The brewery’s commitment to excellence is evident not only in its production equipment but also in its corporate administration building and systems. The investment made by Heineken International reflects a dedication to quality, efficiency, and a desire to bring the best possible products to consumers throughout South Africa.
Whether a seasoned beer enthusiast or a casual drinker, the tour around the Heineken Sedibeng Brewery is both exciting and interesting, showcasing the change and challenges, manufacturing a world-class product in Mzansi brings with it.
The Sedibeng Brewery’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of brewing technology and flavor profiles is a testament to the ever-evolving nature of the beverage industry.
