The information indicated that a gang was planning to strike in Sandton, utilizing a marked courier truck as part of their scheme. With this critical piece of information at hand, the Flying Squad maintained vigilant surveillance along major routes, scanning for any signs of suspicious activity.

Their diligence paid off when they spotted two vehicles fitting the description provided, traversing the N1 South. The officers trailed the suspects until they reached the M1 South in Sandton. It was there that they made their move, intercepting the vehicles – a branded Courier Company Ford bakkie and a white Toyota double cab bakkie.

 

A thorough search of the vehicles ensued, revealing a cache of weaponry in the possession of the suspects. Among the seized items were two rifles and three pistols, all loaded with live rounds of ammunition. The discovery underscored the gravity of the situation and the imminent threat that had been averted by the timely intervention of law enforcement.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, commended the officers involved in the operation for their bravery and professionalism.
