Hilton made a stylish entrance into the heart of Cape Town with the opening of Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof in June 2025. Located in the heart of Longkloof, a revitalised historic district, the hotel is surrounded by a newly opened shopping centre, modern office spaces, and a burgeoning tech start-up hub. With 154 thoughtfully designed rooms and public areas that reflect the spirit of both South Africa and the neighbourhood, the property feels like a modern urban retreat while remaining deeply rooted in its local context.

During a recent stay, The Sandton Times discovered that Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof quickly became one of our favourite hotels in the city, offering a boutique experience that is both elevated and inviting. Canopy by Hilton has long been known for delivering stays that immerse guests in the best of their surroundings, combining sophisticated design with locally inspired touches and bespoke food and beverage offerings. The brand currently operates over 40 properties across 14 countries, with more than 40 additional hotels under development worldwide.

A Location That Hits The Mark

One of the hotel’s strongest attributes is its prime City Bowl location. It’s just a 10-minute drive from the scenic Table Mountain, 20-minutes from Cape Town International Airport, and 10-minutes from the Cape Town International Convention Centre, with ample underground parking. Beaches like Camps Bay and Clifton are easily accessible, as are landmarks including Signal Hill, the Museum Precinct, and the V&A Waterfront. For convenience, essential stores are within walking distance, and a Tashas and gourmet deli are currently in development.

Design And Atmosphere

Canopy Cape Town’s design cleverly blends history with modern flair. The hotel’s façade features distinctive red bricks, carefully preserved to honour Longkloof’s 112-year-old history. Inside, public spaces are flooded with natural light and buzzing energy, making them equally attractive to both guests and locals. Artisan-crafted furnishings, colourful South African prints, and a curated collection of paintings by local artists create a space that feels vibrant, warm, and uniquely Cape Town.

The 154 guest rooms are spacious and modern. Each room features a signature canopy above the bed, adorned with colourful South African prints that add a playful and local touch. Thoughtful layouts include ample workspace, charging ports, generous storage, and a safe for valuables. Bathrooms are large and functional, though the amenities feel slightly industrial and could benefit from a more fresh, floral update to match the hotel’s otherwise lively aesthetic.

Culinary Highlights At Ongetem

Dining at Canopy is anchored by Ongetem, the hotel’s signature restaurant and bar. The name, Afrikaans for “Untamed,” captures the fresh and fearless energy of the venue. Under the guidance of acclaimed Chef Bertus Basson, the menu draws on South Africa’s rich culinary heritage, blending bold local flavours with contemporary twists. Interiors are playful and design-forward, celebrating community and craftsmanship, and the space immediately feels like a destination in its own right. While the food and beverage service is still finding its rhythm, the quality and creativity of the offerings promise to elevate Cape Town’s dining scene.
