The Sandton Times has searched ‘hot and cold’ ahead of the Easter break and explored some of the most desired eateries and getaways, to get a first-hand experience of what guests can expect when planning their April holiday. With some of the best spots in South Africa, there is no doubt Easter holiday travelers are in for an absolute treat.

There are few places quite as luxurious as Shamwari Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape. The fly-in safari market is another that it is seeking to grow. Inquiries about this option have increased noticeably in the past year as well-heeled South Africans, fed up with the changing and inconsistent international travel rules, started looking for other options.

Shamwari has a 1,2km compacted gravel runway for fly-in safaris. It provides a bespoke service, where guests are collected from the steps of the aircraft and transferred in game vehicles to the lodge where they are staying.
