There is never a dull weekend in the heart of Sandton, yet this weekend will see a handful of events impacting traffic flow and visitors are well advised to plan their travel and parking carefully to ensure a fun filled visit to Africa’s richest square mile.

Impact Run – Saturday, 5 August 2023

The Impact Run is a special day dedicated to celebrating individuals who embrace movement, make future fit choices, and contribute positively to society. This 10km road running race will take participants through the heart of Sandton, known as the ‘richest square mile in Africa’. The race starts from Wanderers Stadium, and although the roads won’t be entirely closed, JMPD and road marshals will efficiently manage the traffic to ensure runners’ safety.

 

The picturesque route includes iconic streets like Corlette Drive, Jacobs Avenue, Atholl Oaklands Road, Central Road, Rivonia Road, Sandton Drive, Alice Lane, Rudd Road, and Corlett Drive. There are several categories to choose from, including the 10km Corporate Executives Challenge, 21km, 10km, and 5km. Notably, the Corporate Executives Challenge offers a grand prize of R10’000 to the charity of the winner’s choice.

 

The event promises to be more than just a race, with prize-giving and entertainment taking place between 10am and 2pm. All participants are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations set by WA (World Athletics), ASA (Athletics South Africa), and CGA (Central Gauteng Athletics).

 

As certain routes will impact roads opening and closing, please plan well in advance.

Mercedes-Benz Event – Sunday, 6 August 2023

For automobile enthusiasts and luxury car lovers, Mercedes-Benz is hosting a launch at 92 Rivonia Road, which is a closed and exclusive event for invited media and select Mercedes-Benz clients only.

 

Partial road closures will be in effect along Rivonia Road, Katherine Street, and Fifth Street, while Pybus Road experiencing a full closure to serve as a test driving track for the event. To minimize disruption, affected properties with staff or tenants needing access or exit will be allowed to do so every hour from 9am to 5pm.

 

The event commences at 9am and will run until 6pm. However, the organizers are mindful of the community and have planned to clear and reopen the roads by 4am on Monday, 7 August 2023.
