During a recent stopover in Dubai, The Sandton Times explored all that this dazzling city had to offer – well, in 72-hours that is! From fine dining, to shopping, sightseeing and of course an array of hospitality, Dubai is forever changing, growing and evolving, setting a benchmark for many international destinations. As a popular transit point for South African’s on route to Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Dubai offers travellers a chance to stopover for a visit, that certainly won’t disappoint!

From the moment we arrived at W Dubai – Mina Seyahi, an artfully designed porte-cochère leading to a stylish Welcome Desk greeted us and set expectations that this hotel was unlike any other.
W Hotels has created its own vocabulary, both visually and verbally, with the W Lounge – W Hotels’ innovative take on the hotel lobby – paying tribute to the gold souks of the region. Whilst an early check-in isn’t always possible at this highly sought after hotel stay, stepping into one of the 318 rooms, including 27 suites, all sea-facing with private balconies, is a sight to behold.

Each room is a sanctuary of luxury, featuring separate living, vanity, and sleeping spaces, along with the brand’s signature Mix Bar and quirky details. The kitchen has even prepared a massive chocolate W, served with a mini mallet, that once smashed, spills forth jelly beans galore.
The balcony provides a prime view of the ever growing Dubai skyline, with vibrant sunsets over the Arabian Gulf, Palm Jumeirah Island, and landmarks like Ain Dubai. Room space is generous at W Dubai – Mina Seyahi, with as much focus on design as there is on function.

As a side note, there’s certainly nothing more frustrating or irritating when traveling than having to deal with roaming costs or spending half a day trying to buy a local SIM card – filling out pages and pages of contracts for only a few days connectivity. During this trip, we put the eSIM from Holafly to the test. Founded in Spain, Holafly has a range of international eSIM plans that you can purchase online and activate upon arrival, by scanning a QR code and following a few easy steps. The service offers unlimited data only, with the options of connecting other devices via tethering. If you would like to give it a try, follow the link and get a 5% discount on a Holafly eSIM for your next trip – it’s a game changer for digital nomads and anyone traveling internationally.

Back at W Dubai – Mina Seyahi, those seeking the ultimate in luxury, the Extreme WOW Suite – W’s twist on the Presidential Suite – on the 30th floor offers a stunning 3’000 square-foot space with two bedrooms, a lounge, dining area, and a balcony with sweeping city views.
W Dubai – Mina Seyahi’s dining and nightlife options are as popular as the accommodation itself. Ginger Moon, located on the second floor, provides an urban all-day club experience with innovative lunch, sunset, and dinner menus. The indoor-outdoor space extends to an expansive terrace and infinity pool, offering panoramic views of Mina Seyahi Bay.

ATTIKO, a high-energy rooftop lounge, is certainly a hotspot. With enviable views, live music, and DJs, ATTIKO offers a mix of modern and classic Pan-Asian dishes and an extensive menu of international beer, wine, and signature handcrafted cocktails. Grab a late-night drink and take in the breath-taking views of Dubai’s iconic skyline on the open-air balcony.
In 2023, Malakite beach club and pool debuted on the private beach, accessible only to residents and hotel guests. This two-in-one concept spans over 7900 square meters, featuring a 50-meter-long pool and private beach. Throughout the day, there are surprise performances, and as the sun sets, the action moves indoors for more entertainment.

The BAR-B spa is at the heart of the hotel’s pampering offerings, featuring four treatment rooms, a beauty bar, and relaxation areas. Here, guests can indulge in standout facials and full-body therapies.
W Dubai – Mina Seyahi is more than just a hotel; it’s a bold move towards creating a hospitality experience once more, blending Dubai’s rich cultural tapestry with the signature W experience, which is a vibe. Whether you’re there to relax, explore, or celebrate, W Dubai – Mina Seyahi promises an unforgettable stay that’s as unique and vibrant as the city itself.
