In the frigid heart of the Antarctic, a legendary story of survival has resurfaced—one that binds together the iron-willed endurance of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and a modern-day team’s successful quest to uncover his lost ship.

In 1915, Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance was locked in the pack ice of Antarctica’s Weddell Sea, its hull crushed and the icy waters swallowing it whole. Against these unrelenting elements, Shackleton miraculously kept his 27-man crew alive for over a year—a legendary feat of leadership and perseverance in extreme conditions. Over 100 years later, a mission spearheaded by the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust (FMHT) set out to locate Endurance, lying untouched on the ocean floor since its descent.

Funded and organized by FMHT, this journey was led by polar geographer Dr. John Shears, marine archaeologist Mensun Bound, and expedition subsea manager Nicolas Vincent. Their journey to bring Endurance back into the world of the living would test the boundaries of modern technology and the limits of human resilience.

Aboard the South African icebreaker Agulhas II, the expedition team comprised scientists, archaeologists, and seasoned filmmakers capturing every crucial moment of the mission. Under the guidance of Natalie Hewit, along with historian Dan Snow and a team from History Hit, the events unfolded with an immediacy that has been faithfully documented.
