Unlike typical regattas based out of a single marina, the Seychelles Challenge takes participants on a journey to a different island each day, giving the fleet a new course to conquer. From the excitement of the race to the post-race camaraderie, the event promises days of fresh adventures as the group circles the Seychelles, creating a dynamic experience that is different from year to year.
Beyond the daily challenges of the race, there’s a chance to sail through the Seychelles’ iconic islands, Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue, soaking in views of lush green landscapes, white sandy beaches, and vibrant coral reefs.
The Seychelles Challenge is calling on sailors of all experience levels with various participation options:
• Bareboat Charter: For seasoned sailors with the appropriate sailing license, this option allows sailors to race independently.
• Skippered Charter: Ideal for those who want to race without handling the yacht’s technicalities. With this option, a professional skipper takes the helm, allowing sailors to focus on the scenery and experience.
• Spectator Yacht: For non-competitors, this package lets you enjoy the thrill of the race up close without joining the competition. As a spectator, sailors have the chance to cruise alongside the fleet and attend all post-race events.
For those with their own yacht, these can also join the race and attend all official events without chartering. For those who prefer to stay on land but still participate, there’s a spectator package that grants access to the daily prize-giving ceremonies and evening events.
The Seychelles is renowned for its ideal sailing conditions. Gentle trade winds averaging 10-15 knots (18-28 km/h), combined with predictable currents and sheltered anchorages, make it the perfect location for both experienced sailors and those new to the sport. It’s an extraordinary place to practice sailing skills or simply unwind amid some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world.
The diversity of landscapes and the relatively short distances between islands make it easy to experience multiple destinations within a single trip. Each stop along the route reveals a new layer of the Seychelles’ natural beauty – from the white sand beaches and lush rain-forests to the striking granite formations unique to this part of the world.
The Seychelles Challenge kicks off on Sunday, 20 July 2025, with registration and a competitor briefing at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Mahé Island. That afternoon, there’s a warm-up race to let participants get familiar with their vessels. The official Welcome Ceremony later in the evening marks the start of the adventure.
The next six days are filled with daily races that test participants’ skills and endurance. Each morning begins with a warning signal, after which the fleet races to the day’s destination. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect:
• Stage 1: Praslin Island’s Paradise Beach
• Stage 2: The waters around Felite and Grande Soeur Islands
• Stage 3: Anse Lazio and Curieuse
• Stage 4: La Digue Island
• Stage 5: Finishing outside La Digue Harbour and sailing to Mahé
• Stage 6: Final race from St. Anne Island to Eden Island
Each evening, participants gather for a prize-giving ceremony, celebrating the day’s achievements and swapping stories of the day’s adventures. The event culminates with a grand Closing Ceremony and final prize-giving at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Saturday, 26 July 2025. From pristine waters and lush landscapes to challenging daily races and celebrations, the Seychelles Challenge 2025 offers a sailing experience that combines competition with exploration in one of the world’s most beautiful destinations.
