It was time to return to The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg at The Peech Hotel to explore the Prix Fixe menu, offering diners the chance to experience the best of the kitchen in a fun, sharable format. Having attended the media launch some time back, where a few dishes fell a little short, this visit promised a chance at redemption – and it didn’t disappoint.

The Pot Luck Club is part of the Luke Dale Roberts Group of Restaurants, one of South Africa’s most celebrated fine dining collectives. Running until 30 September 2025, the seasonal prix fixe menu offers dining value, allowing guests to enjoy multi-course meals thoughtfully designed to suit every appetite, whether for a quick midweek treat or a more leisurely, indulgent dining affair. With a consistent track record of awards and a commitment to culinary excellence, Luke Dale Roberts and his team continue to push the boundaries of innovation. Bold, globally inspired flavours, combined with world-class technique, make dining here an experience rather than just a meal.

Since its debut in 2012 at Cape Town’s Old Biscuit Mill, The Pot Luck Club has been a trailblazer in small-plate dining, earning a devoted following with punchy, adventurous flavours and a buzzing atmosphere. The arrival of the Johannesburg edition marks a new chapter for The Peech Hotel, seamlessly blending creativity with the hotel’s tranquil, contemporary surrounds.

Under the guidance of Head Chef Ebie du Toit and Group Executive Chef Jason Kosmas, the kitchen continues to impress, while manager Gray Tawanda ensures the attentive service remains a hallmark of the Pot Luck experience. The Johannesburg space balances natural finishes with modern urban flair, offering guests a chic yet relaxed environment perfect for both indoor dining and meals beneath a canopy of trees.

This winter, both the Cape Town and Johannesburg locations are offering two exceptional prix fixe menus. The Prix Fixe Lite presents a six-plate sharing experience for two, ideal for a quick, flavour-packed lunch, while the Prix Fixe Loaded is an indulgent eight-plate sharing experience for two, perfect for a leisurely, flavour-rich outing.

The Sandton Times opted for the Prix Fixe Loaded, bringing some of the kitchen’s finest creations to the table. Highlights included Taco 2.0 with linefish ceviche, black bean purée, charred corn salsa, avocado and chipotle dressing; sashimi with grapefruit, spring onion, fragrant herbs, avocado, pickled ginger and dashi dressing; and crispy squid, a perfectly executed classic.
Roast pineapple in a fish sauce caramel with red curry, cashew nut, tamarind sambal and curry leaf impressed, as did the Pot Luck Club fish sliders, featuring hake with mojo dressing and miso mayo. The pork belly Penang with coconut and peanut broth, lime-pickled red onions and coriander oil, along with the smoked beef fillet with black pepper and truffle café au lait, were standout dishes.

Chickpea, goats cheese and parmesan fries with truffle aioli and smoked ketchup provided a shareable side, and the Peanut Butter Bomb – a dessert with subtle yet vibrant peanut butter, banana mousse, honeycomb crunch, banana tuile and Frangelico sabayo – proved a playful, indulgent finish.

The experience is relatable yet elevated, offering diners a chance to explore diverse textures and bold flavours. The portions encourage sharing and allow guests to try a little of everything, making it a playful, flavour-packed way to get to know the menu and return later with established favourites in mind. The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg’s Prix Fixe menu demonstrates why the restaurant remains a favourite for adventurous diners.

Running until 30 September 2025, the Prix Fixe experience is worth a try for Sandton food lovers, offering a curated taste of what makes Luke Dale Roberts’ restaurants among South Africa’s most celebrated culinary destinations.
