We Went There: The Hazendal – A Luxurious Escape In South Africa’s Winelands

In the picturesque landscape of Stellenbosch, the Hazendal Wine Estate has not only highlighted its historical roots but has also blossomed into a premier destination.

  • The Hazendal was a natural progression to complete the estate’s offerings.
  • The Voloshin family have spent years curating and developing Hazendal into the space it is today.
  • The hotel boasts a rich collection of local art, adding a very personal touch to the public spaces.

The latest jewel in the Hazendal Wine Estate crown is The Hazendal, a luxury boutique hotel that officially opened its doors in October 2023. This new addition, boasting 34 rooms and suites, seamlessly combines modern design with the rich heritage of Cape Dutch architecture, creating a lavish retreat just 30-minutes from Cape Town. The Sandton Times headed to the Cape, to explore this new slice of hospitality in the winelands – we thoroughly enjoyed it!

The Hazendal
At the core of The Hazendal lies its charming central courtyard, which boasts a heated pool and chic pergolas, offering the perfect setting to soak up the sunny ambiance of the Winelands during your visit. Image: The Sandton Times

The Hazendal experience begins with the exterior of the hotel, characterized by clean lines, minimalist aesthetics, and a palette of traditional whites, blacks, and charcoals that harmonize with the estate’s existing architecture. Once inside, guests are greeted by an interior adorned with bright artworks, natural skylights, and indoor flower beds, providing a stark contrast to the exterior’s austerity. The Marvol Gallery, an in-house curation, showcases original artworks by up-and-coming South African talents, adding cultural richness to the contemporary ambiance.
