Sneaker District South Africa opened its doors in Melrose Arch, shutting down the Melrose Arch High Street for the night for an unforgettable take over. The road outside the store was transformed into a mini-festival space, with burgers and tacos being served from a fire-engine turned food-truck, a Red Bull truck spinning hip hop beats, old school benches scattered with official media partner MTV Base cushions and so much more.
Sneaker District was founded in Abu Dhabi, took over an abandoned building in the “World Trade Centre” and transformed it into a huge industrial multi-brand store, with a basketball court, a coffee shop and much more. The store quickly became the hub for streetwear and sneaker culture in the region. The business model was so successful that they set their eyes on South Africa as the next destination, with a vision of providing a space for creatives, young entrepreneurs, and sneakerheads.
The destination store boasts many unique features to attract a premium customer including the largest claimed LED Screen in Africa – spanning 3m x 40m across the exterior face of the building. Inside a Red Bull 3v3 basketball court and Red Bull Bar offers shoppers refreshing mocktails, whilst browsing the high-end apparel and sneakers across multiple levels.
Yet the store offers so much more than just sneakers, as Sneaker District South Africa boasts a range of imported brands that are both rare and have never been available in the retail market in South Africa. Brands like Karl Kani, HUF, Rip n Dip, Naked Wolfe, Market and many more. These are complimented by a cap wall, a skateboard section, jewellery and so much more.
Guests who attended the official launch enjoyed the chance to pose for photos, sip on Hennessy cocktails served at a sleek black and gold bar, win some incredible sneaker giveaways and witness a ‘District Discussion’ hosted by Fred Merc with special guest Trinidad Jame$. Co-host of Complex USA’s hit show ‘Full Size Run’, the Sneaker District team flew Trinidad in for his first public appearance in South Africa. Guests gathered around to gain insight into how he built his brand, and then watch him ‘Drip , Flip or Skip’ five of the guests outfits.
Sneaker District South Africa is located Melrose Arch High Street, opposite Starbucks.
