‘Wicked Smart – Brilliant Ways to Do Just About Anything Better’ With Author Douglas Kruger

Douglas explores the power of reframing – shifting your perspective to achieve better outcomes – and shows how this simple shift can unlock extraordinary results in both personal and professional life. Image: Douglas Kruger

Douglas Kruger, award-winning speaker and author of over a dozen books, is back with his latest work: Wicked Smart, a book that distills decades of breakthroughs in behavioural economics into practical, real-world strategies. New results require new ways of acting, and new ways of acting demand fresh ways of seeing the world.

Steve Jobs once famously observed that while animals may be more energy-efficient than humans, put a person on a bicycle and they suddenly outperform them all. Douglas builds on this insight, demonstrating how we can harness smart tools, principles, and shortcuts to accelerate success in virtually every area of life.

Wicked Smart gathers the very best of behavioural science and human ingenuity into one easy-to-follow guide. It answers the questions that matter: How do you get the most out of your brain? What’s the smartest way to structure a team? How can a small business run ten times faster – or ten times cheaper – than an industry giant?

These insights aren’t just theory – they work in the real world. Whether you’re pursuing personal goals, leading teams, persuading others, or simply curious about clever ways to live, Douglas offers a toolkit of strategies and accelerators that make achieving more, faster, both possible and enjoyable.

Wicked Smart – Brilliant Ways to Do Just About Anything Better is available now online and at all good bookstores.

‘Cop & A Half’ With Producer And Cheeky Studios CEO Yusuf Stevens

COP & A HALF, a bold new South African action-comedy, hit streaming globally on Amazon Prime Video this August! Produced by Cheeky Studios, the film boasts a heavyweight local cast, a riotous plot, and marks the studio’s high-budget debut into feature film-making – and it’s anything but by the book.

Cheeky Studios is the scripted content division of Cheeky Media, one of South Africa’s most dynamic and award-winning media companies. While Cheeky Media made its name across television, digital, radio, and branded content, Cheeky Studios represents a leap into long-form, original storytelling for global audiences. With a bold, unapologetic approach and locally rooted narratives, the studio is here to shake up screens – one disruptive project at a time.

Shot across South Africa with unfiltered energy, COP & A HALF is pure local chaos. Jonathan Boynton-Lee and Trevor Gumbi star as a mismatched pair tasked with bringing down a brutal drug syndicate, navigating Joburg’s underbelly with guns drawn and patience tested. From botched busts to back-alley shootouts, the duo’s reluctant alliance spirals from bad decisions to worse one-liners, delivering a street-level buddy cop flick infused with distinctly South African swagger.

Written by Meren Reddy in close collaboration with Boynton-Lee, the film pays homage to classic buddy cop pairings while giving the genre a gritty, Joburg-specific twist, packed with sharp dialogue, local energy, and scenes that could only happen in South Africa. With top-tier production values, a somewhat of the rails narrative, a touch too much graphic violence and an unapologetic sense of humour, the studio proves it’s ready to take South African storytelling to a global stage.

The Return Of Physical Media With Entertainment Commentator Tat Wolfen

In a world dominated by digital screens and endless cloud storage, there’s a quietly growing movement back to physical media – and it’s not just nostalgia. Cassettes, CDs, DVDs, vinyls, and photo albums are making a surprising resurgence, proving that sometimes, the tangible experience is irreplaceable.

For many, the convenience of smartphones and tablets has made accessing photos and music effortless — but often at the cost of experience. If you want to show holiday photos, you have to dig through thousands of images on your phone. Instead, why not curate physical photo albums, even with just ten images per trip. You can hold them, share them, and enjoy them without endless scrolling.

Music fans are seeing a similar revival with vinyl records. The warmth, fidelity, and tactile experience of LPs can’t be matched by digital streams or compressed MP3s. Today, new releases from global artists like Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Jay-Z – and local South African talent including Karlien van Jaarsveld and Matthew Moll – are available on vinyl, proving that the medium isn’t just for older generations.

Even printing technology is evolving to support this trend. Epson’s EcoTank L8050 photo printer allows users to print high-quality images directly from phones or computers with minimal cost and mess. The fusion of old and new — classic vinyl players with Bluetooth connectivity, high-tech photo printers — is making physical media accessible while maintaining the charm of tactile engagement.

Epson’s EcoTank L8050 boasts a 6-color ink system and a high resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi, ensuring vibrant and detailed prints. Its Heat-Free Micro Piezo technology reduces energy consumption, making it both efficient and eco-friendly. With wireless connectivity and compatibility with various media types, including CDs and PVC ID cards, the L8050 offers versatility for creative projects. Its front-facing ink tanks and key-lock bottles make refilling hassle-free, while the compact design ensures it fits seamlessly into any space.

Beyond technicalities, it’s about creating a connection. Albums, LP sleeves, and photo prints tell stories, preserve memories, and engage multiple senses. They provide a richness of experience that digital formats can’t fully replicate. Whether it’s revisiting a parent’s honeymoon photos or spinning a record from your favorite artist, physical media is proving that holding something in your hands can still matter – a timeless reminder in a fast-moving digital world.

The 2025 season of Next Opulent Model South Africa (OMSA), a modelling and fitness competition, concluded in spectacular fashion on Thursday, 14 August 2025 at the SunBet Arena, Time Square, Pretoria. This year’s PRISM theme came alive on stage, celebrating transformation, diversity, and authenticity in the modelling world.

OMSA has positioned itself as South Africa’s modelling and fitness platform, partnering exclusively with Top Model Worldwide (London) to provide aspiring and established talent a professional and safe stage to shine. With a wide range of categories – from Runway and Curve Model to Body Transformation and Fitness Physique – the competition celebrates every form of beauty and skill.

A standout of the 2025 season was Mich Letcher from Bryanston, who claimed the coveted Female Physique title. Mich, a seasoned personal trainer with over 15 years’ experience and former Head of Fitness and Sponsorship at Garmin, impressed a star-studded judging panel with her dedication, discipline, and inspiring comeback story. Having undergone a double disc replacement three years ago, Mich showcased that age and setbacks are no barrier to achieving greatness. At 54, she also aimed to inspire menopausal women to pursue their fitness goals, proving that determination knows no age limit.

Preparation for the competition was grueling: a three-day-on, one-day-off training regime with targeted lower-body and upper-body workouts, paired with strict macro-controlled nutrition. Mich’s reward? A slice of fresh ciabatta with butter and cheddar, washed down with a celebratory glass of bubbles – a small indulgence after months of disciplined preparation.

OMSA 2025 was more than a competition for Mich – it was a celebration of resilience, transformation, and the limitless potential of South African women.
