In this week’s show [Edition 192 Week 17] The Sandton Times covers an array of topical news as well as these interviews:

Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards Winner Robby Collins

Robby Collins was a standout at the 12th Annual Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards, taking home two major accolades: Best Solo Show for his Come As You Are Tour and the coveted Headliner of the Year award.

In relatively no time at all, Robby has risen from a lanky, long-limbed actor on the Durban theatre circuit to an artist of high acclaim — not just a nation-touring comedian with his own one-man show, but also an Emmy-nominated writer and feature film actor. The sincerity of his material is matched only by the authenticity of his stage presence, as he skilfully finds humour in life’s more painful moments.

His success at this year’s awards further cements his status as one of the country’s most compelling comedic voices.

Faith Based Cinema With Entertainment Commentator Tat Wolfen

Spanning seven seasons, The Chosen combines biblical truth with creative storytelling, adding backstories and dialogue while staying true to the spirit of the Gospels. Image: The Chosen

The Chosen

The Chosen is a ground-breaking historical drama about the life of Jesus Christ, portrayed through the perspectives of those who knew Him. Set in first-century Israel under Roman rule, the series explores Jesus’ teachings and miracles, which draw diverse followers and spark concern among the authorities.

Viewers are encouraged to read the Bible alongside the show for deeper context. The Chosen is available to watch for free via its app (on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, iOS, and Android), on Amazon Prime, or directly at watch.thechosen.tv.

Cabrini

Francesca Cabrini is a powerful historical drama by Sound of Freedom director Alejandro Monteverde, telling the true story of an Italian immigrant who arrives in New York City in 1889. Faced with disease, poverty, and neglected orphans, Cabrini risks everything to convince a resistant mayor to provide housing and healthcare for the city’s most vulnerable. Despite her own poor health and broken English, she defies the odds and builds a lasting legacy of compassion and care — an empire of hope in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Rivonia Pickup Truck Attack With Writer And Communications Strategist Sarah Britten

The experience left Sarah shaken, emotionally bonded to a stranger who had also witnessed the incident. Image: Eye-Witness

Sarah Britten recounts the harrowing experience of witnessing a brutal hit-and-run in Sandton, where a grey Ford Ranger deliberately ran over a man. Initially, her reflex was to film the incident, a reaction she later felt ashamed of, highlighting how desensitised society has possibly become to violence due to constant exposure to graphic content online.

Despite her shock, she helped call emergency services and assisted paramedics at the scene, all while her young daughter waited in the car. Another witness had captured the entire event, including the vehicle’s registration, and provided crucial evidence to police—though doubts remain about whether justice will be served.

The event underscores the conflict between our instinct to document versus our responsibility to act—and the fragile hope that accountability might still be possible. Police are still searching for the driver.
