As the countdown builds anticipation, these bars stand as beacons of excellence in the evolving world of mixology. Image: The World’s 50 Best Bars

The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023, a coveted list in the realm of mixology, emerges from the discerning choices of 680 members forming the Voting Academy. Comprising a gender-balanced panel of industry luminaries—drinks writers, bartenders, educators, and well-travelled cocktail enthusiasts—the academy creates a snapshot of the globe’s cocktail landscape.

In a nod to the unique challenges of 2023, voters were tasked with selecting up to seven of the finest cocktail experiences, with a cap of five from their home region. Acknowledging the constraints on international travel, those unable to explore beyond their local borders were under no obligation to vote for bars elsewhere. The result? A meticulously curated list derived from the essence of global perspectives, independently scrutinized by professional services consultancy Deloitte.

Before the unveiling of the top 50, the extended list, spanning from No. 51 to No. 100, set the stage. At the hundredth spot, Johannesburg’s Sin + Tax bar earns its place, offering a taste of South African sophistication. Meanwhile, the cosmopolitan flair of Dubai shines through Galaxy Bar, part of the Tashas Group, securing its presence in this illustrious line-up.

The 15th edition of The World’s 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, hits Singapore on 17 October 2023 with a live awards ceremony at Pasir Panjang Power Station. Tune into the livestream.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Kevin’s love for spoken word and poetry adds a unique dimension to his ambassadorial role. Image: Tullamore D.E.W.

In the world of whiskey, where tradition meets innovation, Kevin Pigott stands out as a seasoned player entering his 11th year in the game. Recently appointed as the Global Ambassador for Tullamore D.E.W., Kevin brings a unique blend of humble roots, extensive experience, and a passion for genuine human connections.

Hailing from the quaint town of Athlone, nestled next to Tullamore in Ireland, Kevin’s journey in the whiskey industry has been nothing short of remarkable. Athlone, home to Sean’s Bar, the oldest bar in Europe, seems to have infused a sense of history and authenticity into Kevin’s whiskey pursuits. It’s a fitting background for someone who now carries the responsibility of being the face of Tullamore D.E.W. globally.

Kevin’s professional journey has seen him traverse through the Irish, UK, and US whiskey markets over the past decade. His recent appointment as the Global Ambassador for Tullamore D.E.W. signifies not only his personal growth but also the brand’s recognition of his expertise and dedication.

Known for his humble and quirky appeal, Kevin embodies the spirit of Tullamore D.E.W., a brand that takes pride in authentic connections. The Homegrown Humble Tully Hero’s initiative is a testament to this ethos, as Kevin immerses himself in the South African whiskey culture through pairings and mixology sessions. Expect boisterous banter and Tully cheer, as the brand aims to create an immersive experience around genuine connections.

Audiences are treated to poetic interludes, comedic storytelling, and an exuberant energy that reflects his passion for the art of whiskey-making. His deep knowledge of Irish whiskey, coupled with a genuine love for the country’s best export—outside its people—sets him apart as a connoisseur with a heart.

Barrel maturation holds a special place in Kevin’s heart, emphasizing the importance of wood in flavor development. His fascination extends beyond whiskey into the realms of oak trees, nature, and mycorrhizal networks. This multifaceted interest contributes to his holistic understanding of the whiskey-making process.

Outside the whiskey world, Kevin’s interests span sea swimming, storytelling, hiking, stand-up comedy, and a genuine curiosity about other cultures. Not content with merely promoting Tullamore D.E.W., Kevin takes on the role of a connector. In every city he visits, he hosts human connection exercises, a small but impactful way to rebuild human connections one person at a time, iris by iris.
