Comprising a gender-balanced panel of industry luminaries—drinks writers, bartenders, educators, and well-travelled cocktail enthusiasts—the academy creates a snapshot of the globe’s cocktail landscape.
In a nod to the unique challenges of 2023, voters were tasked with selecting up to seven of the finest cocktail experiences, with a cap of five from their home region. Acknowledging the constraints on international travel, those unable to explore beyond their local borders were under no obligation to vote for bars elsewhere. The result? A meticulously curated list derived from the essence of global perspectives, independently scrutinized by professional services consultancy Deloitte.
Before the unveiling of the top 50, the extended list, spanning from No. 51 to No. 100, set the stage. At the hundredth spot, Johannesburg’s Sin + Tax bar earns its place, offering a taste of South African sophistication. Meanwhile, the cosmopolitan flair of Dubai shines through Galaxy Bar, part of the Tashas Group, securing its presence in this illustrious line-up.
