However, this isn’t Sandton’s first brush with the world of Formula 1. Nearly two decades ago, the Renault F1 Team Johannesburg Roadshow brought the roar of F1 engines to the streets of Sandton. More recently, the Heineken F1 Joburg Festival was set to bring similar thrills in 2020, but the global pandemic put those plans on hold. Now, four years later, Red Bull Showrun Joburg is here to reignite that passion and excitement.
While the event isn’t an official Formula 1 race, it offers fans a rare opportunity to witness the raw power and agility of an F1 car up close. David Coulthard, a former Red Bull Racing driver, will take the wheel of the RB7, thrilling the crowd with expertly executed donuts and burnouts on Katherine Drive. The RB7, known for its speed and precision, will be the star of the show, offering a visceral taste of what makes Formula 1 so electrifying.
This iconic machine, known for its dominance in Formula 1, clinched an impressive 18 out of 19 poles and secured victory in 12 races during the 2011 season, ultimately propelling the team to a second Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship double. It’s chance to witness the unparalleled power and distinctive sound of the RB7 first-hand. The location, on Katherine Avenue, between Rivonia Road and West Street, offers a prime spot for the high-speed action and ensures easy access for attendees.
Red Bull Showrun Joburg is designed to be a festive and family-friendly event. Whether you’re a long-time F1 aficionado or new to the sport, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. With limited access around the track once the event begins, early arrival is encouraged to secure a prime viewing spot:

The Red Bull Showrun offers various ticket options, via Computicket, to suit all preferences and budgets. Each zone has dedicated entrance gates, and swapping between ticket zones is not permitted.
General Access 1 – Red Zone
Priced at R250, tickets for the Red Zone grant access via Entrance 1 (corner of Katherine Street & Rivonia Street) and Entrance 2 (Pybus Street).
General Access 2 – Yellow Zone
Also priced at R250, tickets for the Yellow Zone allow entry through Entrance 4 (West Street).
Grandstand Ticket Zones
Grandstand seats are available on a non-reserved basis. Movement between grandstands and ticket zones is not allowed. Access for Grandstand tickets is via Entrance 3 (5th Street). Prices vary by location:
- Grandstand A: R1’450
- Grandstand B: R1’150
- Grandstand C: R950
Hospitality Zones
For a premium experience, the Hospitality Zones offer prime viewing spots, top-notch food and drinks, and exclusive entrances and restroom facilities.
- Friends of Red Bull Hospitality: R3’950, providing a premiere viewing area of the action and pit lane with a premium food and drinks menu.
- Heineken Zero Zone: R2’450, offering prime viewing of the track and donut hotspot with limited complimentary drinks and canapé style catering.
A variety of food and beverage vendors will be available on-site, ensuring that spectators can enjoy a range of culinary delights throughout the day. Please note that only card transactions will be accepted; no cash payments will be allowed.
To accommodate the event, there will be road closures in and around the venue. Detailed information on road closures will be provided closer to the event date. Attendees are advised to park at Sandton City, which is within walking distance of the event.
