The Sandton Times took the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander for a week long test-drive through the urban wilderness of Sandton, to get a real feel for what this latest release from the Japanese motoring giant can do – we were not disappointed.

Let’s start by taking a look at the Mitsubishi Outlander exterior. Its thick, horizontal proportions and jet tail fin pillars give it a commanding presence on the road. LED front fog lamps, sequential turn signals, and daytime running lights add to its modern appeal, while 20-inch alloy wheels and silver roof rails complete the stylish package.

But it’s not all about looks. The all-new Outlander is equipped with Mitsubishi’s latest generation 2.5-liter Duel VVT DOHC engine, producing an exhilarating 135kW at 6’000rpm and 245Nm at 3’600rpm. Coupled with a simulated eight-speed CVT transmission, this SUV delivers effortless acceleration, smooth gear changes, and a refined driving experience.

The Outlander’s legendary off-road pedigree shines through with 210mm of ground clearance and the addition of Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC). This electronically controlled AWD system maximizes vehicle control, distributing power to all four wheels for enhanced traction, stability, and control. Working in tandem with Active Yaw Control, the Outlander ensures a safe and enjoyable drive in any situation.

Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by a luxurious and spacious cabin that exudes comfort. This starts from the moment you climb inside, as the passenger seat pulls back from the steering wheel for ease of access, and pushes you back into position to get started – it’s the ultimate in comfort. Soft-touch surfaces and premium materials surround you, while features like quilted leather door inserts and a leather-wrapped steering wheel elevate the interior to a new level of sophistication. The 12.3-inch Digital Driver Display and eight-inch or nine-inch Smartphone-Link Display Audio display offer the latest technology, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functionality.

Seating seven occupants, the all-new Outlander offers unparalleled interior functionality and comfort. The 60/40 split rear seats with flat-folding function and one-touch folding lever allow for multiple configurations to accommodate all your loading needs.

Advanced driver assistance features like dusk Sensing LED headlights further enhance safety on the road.

The all-new Mitsubishi Outlander is available in two models: the GLS and the Aspire, with prices starting at R729’995. Both models come with a 3-year/100’000km manufacturer’s warranty, 5-year unlimited mileage Road Side Assistance, and a 5-year/90’000km service plan with service intervals every 15’000km. But that’s not all – Mitsubishi is also offering a range of accessory packages, including a body kit for those who want to personalize their Outlander to their taste and needs.

With its modern design, cutting-edge technology, and unparalleled comfort, this flagship SUV promises to make a lasting impact on South African roads. So, whether you’re embarking on a thrilling off-road adventure or cruising through the city streets, the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander is the perfect companion, delivering luxury and adventure in one stylish package.
