The first incident saw a silver Toyota bump a car that was approaching a security gate in Aston Road, Sandton. When the targeted driver stepped out of the car to inspect the damage, two males stepped out of the silver Toyota, one of them with a firearm in hand. They demanded the victim’s watch and went on to collect multiple cell phones of the passengers inside the targeted vehicle.

A security officer who was patrolling in the area spotted the vehicle within 20-minutes after receiving information about the incident and called for backup. The suspects were cornered – one, carrying the firearm, managed to escape. All the items were recovered including three Samsung cell phones, one iPhone 11, and one Cartier watch. The vehicle used in the robbery is suspected stolen and live ammunition was found in the suspects’ possession.

The suspects aged 35 and 42 years old were arrested and charged for armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of ammunition.

In the second incident in Sandton, three suspects aged 22, 32, and 33 were nabbed by police after a long chase along Rivonia Road. The suspects were driving a silver Renault Clio when one of them jumped out of the vehicle to snatch a victim’s cell phone. A few minutes later the victim spotted a police vehicle and reported the incident – police took up the chase and caught all three suspects after they lost control of their vehicle.

They were arrested and 3 cell phones were found in their possession including the victim’s phone. They were charged for common robbery. They will appear in court during the course of the week.

A good working relationship between the police, community, and other law enforcement agencies is key to eradicating criminal activities in Sandton, commented the Sandton SAPS Station Commander.
