The Bregers Are Empowering Women, Giving Back And Reshaping The Retail Rulebook

At Nicci, style is just the beginning of the story. Behind every collection, every campaign, and every customer experience lies something deeper: a purpose driven by empowerment, growth, and the belief that fashion can uplift lives.

  • At the heart of this purpose are co-founders Clive and Niki Breger, the dynamic duo whose quiet but powerful leadership continues to shape Nicci’s legacy.
  • Their passion for giving back, especially to women-led communities and initiatives, is deeply rooted in their vision for a more inclusive and compassionate fashion industry.
  • In an industry where trends shift overnight, the Bregers have remained consistent in one bold commitment: creating a space where women lead, thrive, and rise.

Since launching Nicci more than three decades ago, Clive and Niki have built more than a boutique chain. They have built a business where women do not just fill roles, they own them. They drive innovation and make key decisions that shape the future of the brand.

For the Bregers, empowerment is not a box to tick. It is a way of doing business. It shows up in how they promote from within, how they mentor their team, and how they encourage fresh, diverse voices to be heard in rooms that matter. Today, Nicci’s leadership team is made up of passionate, purpose-led women in key roles across buying, operations, marketing, store management, and customer care. Each one has been nurtured through a culture that values potential, creativity, and contribution.

As Mandela Day approaches, a moment to reflect on service, impact, and legacy, Nicci’s story is a reminder that real empowerment does not always come in a one-size-fits-all all strategy. Sometimes it happens in day-to-day decisions, in mentorship moments, or through the simple act of giving back.

What sets Nicci apart is not just its timeless fashion, but the belief that success grows stronger when women are supported. That belief is embedded in everything, from how hiring decisions are made to how new store teams are built. Image: Nicci

This year, Nicci is proud to partner again with Fingertips of Africa for their Accessories of Hope campaign, a collaboration that reflects the heart of purpose-led fashion. Each bag has been crafted with care and meaning, not only as a statement of style but as a symbol of impact. These items are hand-sewn by the talented women at Fingertips of Africa, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women through dignified work and skill development. They represent a bigger dream that aligns closely with the Nicci brand.

All proceeds from this initiative will go towards building a permanent home for Mama Chido, Fingertips’ lead seamstress. Her strength and inspiring story continue to motivate the women who follow in her footsteps.

For many years, the Nicci has remained committed to supporting underprivileged communities. The brand had the privilege of partnering with organisations such as SA Harvest, where Nicci donated perishables. Together with its loyal Nicci customers, the brand contributed clothing for those in need.

Nicci also worked with PinkDrive to provide access to breast cancer screenings and collaborated with other initiatives that share the brands values of care and empowerment. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of the Nicci customers. Their willingness to give and stand alongside the brand has allowed Nicci to extend its impact far beyond fashion.

Under the guidance of the Bregers and through initiatives like these, a new narrative is being created. One where women rise not because it’s fashionable, but because it’s essential. In doing so, they’re proving that fashion is not just about beautiful garments; it has the power to transform lives.
