Radio And TV Personality Mark Pilgrim Has Died

Mark Pilgrim, the much-loved radio and television personality best known for his radio and television work, has died aged 53, HOT 102.7FM confirmed in a statement.

 

  • The radio and television personality passed on peacefully at home with his fiancé Adrienne Watkins by his side.
  • Mark had been battling stage four lung cancer and had been sharing regular updates on his condition via social media.

Mark Pilgrim was one of South Africa’s most prominent radio and television personalities who had been entertaining audiences for over two decades. With a wealth of experience in the broadcasting industry, having worked as a radio host, television presenter, and voice-over artist, Mark was known for his distinctive voice, infectious personality, and quick wit, which made him a favorite among listeners and viewers alike. In addition to his work in broadcasting, Mark was also a passionate advocate for various charitable causes.

In a Facebook post, radio station HOT 102.7FM confirmed the news.

Mark Pilgrim has just passed on. It was with great sadness that I share this news. Our hero and brother and much loved radio personality Mark Pilgrim lost his battle with cancer this morning at 10:45am. He fought valiantly to the very end.

Mark is best remembered for an extensive radio career, having started on campus radio in the 1980’s before moving on to some of the biggest radio stations in the country including 5FM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and 94.5 Kfm. He also became a well know face as the host of numerous television shows including Big Brother South Africa, Big Brother Africa, Power of 10 and many more.

The family thank you for being part of his journey. For loving him and for celebrating him and supporting him always. Mark will be greatly missed by all. May his soul rest in peace.

He is survived by his daughters Tayla-Jean and Alyssa (whom he had with his ex-wife Nicole Torres), as well as his fiancée Adrienne Watkins. The Sandton Times extends its condolences to Mark’s family and friends.
