It’s a record breaking year for F1 with a myriad of additions and exciting announcements for the sport. For newbies and veterans of the sport, it’s hard to keep track of all that is happening for the 2023 season. The Sandton Times has filtered through the headlines to bring you a digest of the most important news and with the new F1 Season kicking-off this weekend, here are 6 Exciting Things To Look Forward To in 2023:

#1. 23 Races In 20 Countries: Spread across 5 continents, the 2023 F1 calendar brings together some of the most iconic Grand Prix circuits with a handful of fresh tracks! One of the most anticipated races will be the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix – one of three in the United States – and we’re sure that fabulous Las Vegas won’t disappoint. Expect a night race on a street circuit filled with neon lights and high octane action.

#2. Those Who Survived, Will Drive: With some major changes to the driver line-up, the 2023 F1 schedule will be unlike any other, with Fernando Alonso moving from the BWT Alpine F1 Team to the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team and already showing some remarkable results. Pierre Gasly meanwhile has moved to the BWT Alpine F1 Team from Scuderia AlphaTauri, solidifying the French flair of this team. Nico Hulkenberg returns to F1 and slides into a seat with the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team alongside Kevin Magnussen.

#3. Fresh In Formula 1: Three new drivers make their appearance for the 2023 season! Nyck De Vries joins Scuderia AlphaTauri alongside Yuki Tsunoda whilst Oscar Piastri joins Lando Norris at the McLaren F1 Team. Logan Sargeant joins Alexander Albon at Williams Racing to round up the debuts for this year.

#4. Top Bull: Oracle Red Bull Racing celebrated a tremendous 2022 season with Max Verstappen taking his second world title as well as Oracle Red Bull Racing clinching the much sought after Constructors’ Championship – their first since 2013! Could 2023 be a hat-trick for Max and another domination for Oracle Red Bull Racing? Hot on the hooves of Red Bull are Scuderia Ferrari, with a promising 2022 season which saw some poor decisions cost the team multiple points.

With Frédéric Vasseur as team leader for 2023, could Ferrari ride high in the saddle once more? And if there wasn’t already enough space in the front, could the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team make a significant comeback, following some major car challenges last year?

#5. Middle Mile: The BWT Alpine F1 Team, Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team and McLaren F1 Team will be fighting it out in 2023 to secure a solid 4th positioning, bringing up the middle field, with some talented drivers and impressive cars. Yet could Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake upset the F1 Paddock in 2023 with a notable performance?

#6. Everybody Loves Guenther: Team leader for MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, Guenther Steiner, is the F1 man you can’t help vouching for, as the team hopes to align a strong driver duo, with a reliable car, less crashes, some new sponsors and hopefully a bit of luck! If Guenther and his crew get it right, wouldn’t that be something?
