Picture this: more than 9’000 wine lovers, under one roof, sampling and savoring over 700 wines from 120 exhibitors. From bold reds and crisp whites to sparkling surprises and small-batch boutique vintages, WineX is where the Cape’s rolling vineyards meet Sandton’s skyline – an annual pilgrimage for everyone who believes great wine deserves great company.
It’s been 25 years since WineX first filled the Sandton air with the heady scent of Cabernet, Chardonnay, and celebration. What began as a straightforward tasting event has matured, like a well-aged Bordeaux, into a multi-sensory celebration of wine, art, music, and culture. Today, WineX is more than a tasting – it’s a stage where South Africa’s winemaking craft is showcased in all its glory.
Now, three lucky readers could WIN one of the following prizes, thanks to Standard Bank WineX:
• One lucky reader will win the ultimate WineX experience – a pair of tickets to Standard Bank WineX on Thursday, 30 October 2025, along with a set of elegant Riedel Performance glasses and a magnum (1.5L) of Miraval Rosé from the famed Côtes de Provence in the South of France.
• Two lucky readers will each win an “Awesome Foursome” package – four tickets to Standard Bank WineX on Thursday, 30 October 2025 – because great wine is best enjoyed with great company.

Over the years, WineX has mirrored the growth and evolution of the country’s wine industry itself. South African wines have risen to global prominence, earning accolades and admiration from sommeliers and connoisseurs across the world. Yet, for all its international acclaim, WineX keeps things delightfully local – bringing the Cape Winelands to the heart of Gauteng, where wine culture meets cosmopolitan sophistication.
So, what makes WineX 2025 unmissable? Quite simply, everything. Guests can explore an extraordinary line-up of wines representing both household names and rising stars. Expect award-winning cellars that have shaped the legacy of South African winemaking alongside exciting new producers whose limited-edition releases could become tomorrow’s cult classics. Whether you’re chasing the robust character of Stellenbosch reds, the elegance of Elgin Chardonnay, or the coastal minerality of Hemel-en-Aarde whites, there’s a pour for every palate. For those who crave adventure, the boutique stands offer hidden gems waiting to be discovered – the kind of wines that make you wish you’d ordered two cases instead of one.
And yet, WineX is not just for experts. It’s for everyone. From those nervously swirling their first glass to collectors with temperature-controlled cellars, WineX welcomes all with open bottles. It’s a safe space for the curious – where questions are encouraged and enthusiasm is contagious. You can chat directly with winemakers, learn the stories behind the labels, and finally find out whether decanting really makes a difference.

Of course, a great wine show doesn’t end when the glass is empty. WineX makes shopping just as seamless as sipping with its Shop@Show portal, powered by Norman Goodfellows. Every bottle you fall in love with can be purchased right there – at exclusive show prices, with door-to-door delivery after the event. And for those whose taste buds get the better of them (and whose shopping baskets spill over R2’500), there’s a delightful bonus: two exquisite Riedel wine glasses, valued at R500, as a reward for your good taste. This effortless purchasing experience means you can turn inspiration into acquisition – stocking your home cellar or preparing for the festive season while the wine buzz is still fresh.

What truly elevates WineX beyond a tasting event is the atmosphere – a palpable buzz that comes from thousands of people united by a shared love for the grape. The air hums with laughter, clinking glasses, and stories being told over swirls of Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Music and art installations punctuate the space, transforming the convention centre into a living, breathing tribute to South Africa’s creative spirit. It’s sophisticated yet relaxed – the kind of evening where you can dress up or wind down, as long as you’re holding a glass and an open mind.
And then there’s the thrill of discovery. That moment when a winemaker pours you something unfamiliar – a wine from a tiny Swartland vineyard, a varietal you’ve never heard of, or a blend that completely surprises you – and you realize this is what WineX is all about: exploration, inspiration, and delight.
