THE SANDTON TIMES SHIFTS DESKS TO WEWORK ON WEST STREET

Celebrating 10 years of telling Sandton’s story, The Sandton Times has moved its editorial desk to WeWork’s new location at 155 West Street.

The global coworking and space-as-a-service platform opened its doors here in the heart of Sandton earlier this year. The newly refurbished building located at 155 West Street is now complete with five stories of flexible workspace.

WeWork expanded to South Africa in August last year, opening its first space at The Link in Johannesburg. The global coworking company now has three locations in South Africa, with its third building located at 80 Strand Street in Cape Town. The new-in-town flexible workspace is home to a diverse portfolio of members ranging from freelancers and startups to larger corporate companies.

Members based at WeWork in Sandton also have the opportunity to connect with other members in WeWork locations across the country, as well as build business partnerships with members globally, thanks to WeWork’s app which provides members with access to the thriving global community of over 662,000 memberships, across 140 cities and 37 countries.

Local to each building, WeWork community teams across the globe host weekly networking events and community initiatives to help bring the space alive and people together. Ebe is WeWork’s Community Manager here at 155 West Street and, together with his community team, helps to deliver a fantastic experience for new members like us, as well as curate events and networking opportunities.

Throughout the working day, members are welcome to bottomless barista-poured coffees provided by I Love Coffee, a South Africa-based social enterprise that employs and trains Deaf youth to become baristas, as part of a movement that helps create a more accessible and independent future for the Deaf community; it’s been a pleasure to learn sign-language too!

If a caffeine-kick isn’t your thing, there is always a selection of self-service sparkling mineral water, wild leaf Kombucha or Jinja beer, on tap. What’s more, members are able to take time out of their busy schedules to play a game of foosball, read a book in the library or relax in the wellness room–where yoga sessions, midday massages and meditation classes are hosted to help members unwind.

The space also offers small- and medium-sized meeting rooms, classrooms and large conference rooms, high-speed Wi-Fi, printing facilities, and a mailroom service for members’ incoming letters and parcels. For new moms, there is also a Mother’s Room.

Situated in close proximity to the Gautrain station, Benmore Centre, Virgin Active and Alice Lane Piazza which are all within a short walking distance, WeWork 155 West Street is easily accessible with dual access points from Alice Lane and West Street. With over 1,000 parking bays located nearby, and bike stands provided at the main entrance–with access to shower facilities also available inside the building–it is clear that WeWork is dedicated to providing the best possible experience for its members, everyday.

“We are thrilled to have opened our doors here in the heart of Sandton; a thriving community of local and international businesses, and a district that has demonstrated huge potential over the last few years. It’s been incredible to welcome such a diverse group of members into our space– ranging from technology and finance to advertising and well-known media titles, including The Sandton Times. WeWork 155 West Street is filled with natural light, with WeWork’s global brand design as well as local design inspiration, some of the furniture, fabrics and patterns are produced by local manufacturers and sold by local vendors. With all three locations in South Africa now open, I’m looking forward to watching our community network of members connect, collaborate and grow.”

– General Manager, WeWork South Africa, Stafford Masie

WeWork 155 West Street is a burgeoning hub of creativity and it’s fair to say that the The Sandton Times team have been loving the unique member benefits and collaborative working environment that the WeWork team continue to deliver everyday. We look forward to immersing ourselves into the community here, and collaborating with other members.
