With its emphasis on freedom and independence in both day-to-day driving and longer journeys, the BMW X1 offers a premium driving experience like never before. The Sandton Times joined BMW for the launch of both the BMW X1 and BMW 3 Series earlier this year, together with other motoring journalists, to get a first-hand feel for these new releases.

The front end stands out with slim LED headlights, a large BMW kidney grille, and eye-catching chrome strips. The rear features slim tailgate windows, horizontal lines, and flared wheel arches, embodying the typical SAV look.

The seats, available in Sensatec perforated or Vernasca leather upholstery, provide enhanced comfort and can be adjusted to suit individual preferences. The rear compartment offers three full-sized seats with improved comfort and a flexible 40:20:40 split rear seat backrest to expand the boot capacity.

The new BMW X1 offers a range of engine options, including the petrol-powered sDrive18i and the diesel-powered sDrive18d. Both models come with a seven-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch and front-wheel drive. The BMW X1’s chassis technology delivers a balance between sporty, agile handling and long-distance comfort. With features like near-actuator wheel slip limitation, integrated braking system, and optional adaptive M suspension, the BMW X1 offers superior traction, stability, and ride quality.

The new BMW X1 showcases cutting-edge technology and a wide array of driver assistance systems. The standard BMW Live Cockpit Professional Plus, based on BMW Operating System 8, features a 10.25-inch information display and a 10.7-inch control display, providing intuitive touch and voice control. The BMW X1 offers a range of optional features, including the Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise Control, BMW Head-Up Display, and Surround View. Smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also available.
