Through joint efforts and various operations during the month of April, the Sandton Station of the South African Police Service (SAPS) has managed a range of crime categories more favorably compared to previous months, according to an April Crime Report, whilst robberies with firearms have been on the increase.

The latest April crime report for the Sandton policing precinct indicates that burglaries at residential addresses also remain a concern, particularly in Morningside and Wendywood, where most take place between Thursdays and Mondays with most incidences taking place between 2am and 10pm.

Car hijackings are on the decrease but the SAPS encourages motorists to remain very vigilant following some incidences taking place mostly at the Buccleuch interchange which continues to be a hot spot for car hijacking along with the Kelvin area. Most car hijackings tend to take place on Wednesdays between 5am – 9pm. There have also been a few truck hijackings reported, which is an increase from previous months with all incidences taking place on the M1.

The theft, out of motor vehicles, remains a problem mostly in shopping center parking lots across Sandton, with the most active days being Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6am and 10pm.

South African Police Service (SAPS) Acting Station Commander for Sandton, Colonel Sibitane, has lauded law enforcement agencies, security companies, and partners in the Sandton policing precinct for their continually assisting the police in fighting crime.
