As luxury watches continue to rise in popularity and value, South African heritage jeweller Shemer has marked a new milestone with the opening of its flagship store in Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton. The launch event, titled “Moët, Macarons, and Masterpieces” brought together collectors, connoisseurs, and enthusiasts to celebrate craftsmanship, heritage, and the growing prestige of timepieces as investments.

A recent Swiss study revealed that luxury watches now outperform traditional investments, offering stronger returns, higher liquidity, and lower costs – positioning them as an increasingly attractive alternative to property in South Africa.

Alan Carrington, Shemer’s Managing Director and second-generation owner, noted that “luxury is no longer just about rarity – it’s about emotion, experience, and connection.”

The new boutique not only reflects Shemer’s legacy, dating back to 1966, but also signals South Africa’s growing influence in the global luxury market. Carrington confirmed plans for the country’s first standalone Rolex boutique at Sandton’s Diamond Walk later this year, underscoring Shemer’s ongoing commitment to timeless design, authenticity, and investment-worthy excellence.
