As a number of media outlets dissect and present the August 2021 releases by Samsung, bound to land on South African shelves in the next few weeks, The Sandton Times has listed the latest tech from the South Korean multinational and ranked it from fair to fabulous.
4. Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Galaxy Z Flip3 5G
Just when you thought one couldn’t fit any more screen time into our lives, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Galaxy Z Flip3 5G step up as a new generation of ‘foldable’ devices with more screen inches sandwiched into your pocket – a bit like the child of a smartphone and a tablet.
The third generation in this category, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G promises to be a device for productivity and immersive entertainment, whilst the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G promises to impress content creators, influencers, and those wanting to take a selfie without unfolding their phone.
Both devices capitalise on the dual-screen technology, allowing multiple apps and functions to happen simultaneously or quickly with an unfold, slide or shift. Talk about toggling. And if that multitasking isn’t enough, Samsung has introduced the S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro to the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G for even more on-the-go, two-handed multitasking.
The refined devices are now water-resistant, with some impressive engineering work having gone into improving the Hideaway Hinge, and an upgrade to body and screens ensuring more durability. The devices come in a wide range of colours, with the category not having seen a move to Samsung’s own OS, remaining instead, on Android.
Whilst the technology and innovation behind an actual foldable screen is more than impressive, could this miniature laptop in your pocket really be an evolution in smartphones set to stay or a really high-tech marketing gimmick? Let’s see how this unfolds.
3. Galaxy Buds 2
Upfront, the previous generation Galaxy Buds Live rank as some of the best wireless earbuds we’ve tested to date, with stand-out great colours, superb in-ear fit, jelly-bean-like design, and responsive touch technology, all beautifully housed in a great charging carry case.
In steps, the next generation Galaxy Buds 2, offering a similar look and feel to the previously released Galaxy Buds Pro with those silicone ear tips – definitely not the only ones to make use of the silicone ear tip design that generally feels more like a swimming earplug than ear-pleasure.
Samsung brings to market the Galaxy Buds 2 promising a greater sound experience, Active Noise Cancellation, and a range of colours in monotone carry cases, but this doth butter no parsnips.
2. The Thom Browne Editions
One for the fashionista’s, and following two successful launches, Thom Browne has partnered with Samsung again to bring a limited number of designer variations of the latest gear to market. Thom Browne’s signature colors bring a certain chic to the range and will be a definite hit!
1. Galaxy Watch 4 with Wear OS
With a heavy focus on health and wellness, the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 ranks as the most exciting release from the August event.
Available in two versions, the Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatches are the first to feature the new Wear OS Powered by Samsung, built jointly with Google, and are equipped with One UI Watch, Samsung’s most intuitive user interface yet.
The Galaxy Watch4 Series is bolstered with advanced hardware performance and delivers a more seamless and connected user experience than ever before, deep-diving into current global health trends, from body composition and blood oxygen level measurement to monitoring and improving sleep. These new devices have been completely redesigned to provide consumers with the best tools to manage their wellness, including support for leading third-party apps, like adidas Running, Calm, Strava, and Spotify.
The wearable comes in two designs: Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
South African availability and pricing for the newest tech from Samsung will become available over the coming weeks.
