Ocaso is set to open as a vibrant fusion of Mexican influences and South African hospitality, in April 2025, as Heinz Rynners, in collaboration with Corona, take over the space formerly occupied by The Shortmarket Club. As the force behind establishments such as Sandton’s Greenhouse Bar and Restaurant, Babylon in Illovo, Joy Jozi, and Livy’s Eatery, Heinz brings a track record of creating venues that combine food and a lively atmosphere.
Ocaso will be a celebration of flavour, energy, and creativity.
// Ocaso Owner, Heinz Rynners

To bring his vision to life, he has enlisted Ben Stanger and Luke Dakers, operating partners at Monseca, who have already made their mark with The Greenhouse. Their expertise promises to elevate Ocaso as a standout destination for dining and nightlife.
The menu at Ocaso will be a vibrant journey of adventurous shared plates inspired by bold Mexican flavours, according to its creators. It will be complemented by premium tequila offerings and a curated selection of Corona beers, perfectly aligning with the venue’s energetic and creative ethos. Tyron Gentry, the Head Chef of The Shortmarket Club and a long-time collaborator of Luke, will lead the kitchen during this transformation.
Luke Dale-Roberts, whose influence has shaped the South African fine-dining landscape, expressed excitement for Heinzs’ vision while reaffirming his focus on his Cape Town restaurants, including The Pot Luck Club, SALON, and The Test Kitchen Fledgelings.
For those who have cherished The Shortmarket Club, its legacy will undoubtedly live on through the foundations it has laid in creating a space for fine dining. And for those eager to embrace the next chapter, Ocaso offers the promise of something entirely new and exciting.
