Supporters of local fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands have something to look forward to this August as Sandton, Africa’s richest square mile, welcomes the Ilifa Collective to the neighbourhood.
iLifa, translated as “inheritance” in Xhosa, is a retail space in the walkways of Sandton that brings successful South African and African entrepreneurs in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, together. It is a one-stop destination for all things local and celebrates the trend forward genre of affordable urban luxury.
The traditional Sandton shopping experience has been known for its impressive array of international brands but offers little when it comes to South African and African ones. We are challenging the norm and providing shoppers with alternatives to rather go local.
// Manager of the iLifa Collective, Karin Vermeulen
Spread across two floors of the mall (ilifa in Beauty and iLifa in Urban Luxury), the collective’s location is easily accessible to the public through the Davinci Hotel’s street-side lobby, as well as to tourists not wanting to travel far for an authentic African shopping experience.
We want to keep empowering our nation by tapping into the young up and coming talent within it. These entrepreneurs have already proved themselves successful in the online space and now we are helping them to grow their businesses in the retail sector as well.
// Manager of the iLifa Collective, Karin Vermeulen
Some of the shops you can look forward to seeing are: House of Fabrosanz, Native Child, Tammy Taylor Nails, Era by DJ Zinhle, Umzee Shoes and MM Exotic Hair Design to name a few.
