HIGH TEA FOR TWO AT THE PALAZZO MONTECASINO
The iconic Palazzo Montecasino hotel has introduced a fresh new elegant and delectable High Tea, created by recently appointed Head Pastry Chef Marco Gaspar.
With its Italian inspired facade, the Palazzo Montecasino hotel has become one of Johannesburg’s most notable 5-star hotels and with this, its recently refreshed High Tea adds a new treat to an already popular destination. The origins of the High Tea range far and wide but dates back a century or two ago when the upper class in England required a bridging meal between lunch and dinner to take away those late afternoon cravings.
Fast-forward to 2018 and the modern day High Tea has become an opportunity to indulge in some of the most decadent bite sized sweet and savory treats, like the one’s on Chef Marco’s High Tea menu, including a delicious selection of cakes, sandwiches, quiches, scones, freshly infused teas and a variety of coffees.
Having moved away from a buffet style spread, the High Tea at the Palazzo Montecasino hotel is served at the table over three tiers, on a contemporary, stone finish cake stand.
“We pull out the stops to make sure that every high tea experience is world-class, both from a menu perspective and for the tranquil and elegant atmosphere that the Palazzo offers. We look forward to welcoming and pampering our guests through the chilly winter days when a feast of treats make every high tea occasion a celebration.”

The sweet display includes orange soft cake, mango coconut custard choux puff, macaroons, dark chocolate slices. Savoury sandwiches include chicken pastrami, pesto and smoked mozzarella on focaccia, smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber en croute, and grilled halloumi and roasted Mediterranean vegetables on rye. Other savoury treats include smoked salmon and ricotta cheese quiche, spinach and ricotta quiche and Moroccan vegetable pie. An all-time favourite and High Tea standard are scones served with Chantilly cream, strawberry jam and cheese.
Some of our sweet favourites included the lime cheesecake mousse with raspberry jam, lemon meringue tart and dark chocolate berry tart. The duck and cherry pie won on the savory selection.
“Our high teas have become renowned over the years and we strive to keep them fresh, changing with seasons and occasions, and always irresistibly delicious. We have no doubt that Chef Marco’s new menu will bring in guests looking for a relaxed and indulgent – and highly memorable – experience.”
