Here’s What’s Going On With South Road In Sandton

South Road in Sandton, leading from the Engen garage on Rivonia, down past the Rivers Church and Morning View Shopping Center, onward to Marlboro, is undergoing resurfacing by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

  • The road resurfacing entails milling out the existing aged asphalt surface, crack sealing, resurfacing with new asphalt and new road markings.
  • Two lanes affected by the roadworks have been closed off to traffic for the duration of the project.
  • The east and west lanes are open to accommodate counter-flow traffic in the interim.

Many motorists have been caught off-guard by a JRA resurfacing project on South Road in Sandton, which has seen the public road turn into a rugged strip, most would want to avoid. The week-long resurfacing project is scheduled to be completed by July 1.

Between 9am and 3pm, those wishing to drive on South Road will incur added delays due to heavy construction vehicle activity on the road, to complete the resurfacing project.
