Preliminary findings suggest the incident may have been triggered by an altercation over the restaurant’s strict no-firearm policy. A man arrived with his bodyguards and attempted to enter while carrying a firearm. This led to a dispute, which escalated into a shootout, resulting in multiple casualties.

Among the injured were two bystanders, a security guard from the restaurant, and a Community Policing Forum (CPF) patroller who was on duty at the time. The three deceased individuals have been identified as a man and his two bodyguards. At the scene, police seized four firearms, including two AK-47 rifles and two handguns.

Authorities have also linked one of the deceased to a previous shooting incident in early 2024. The individual had a history of violent altercations and was involved in a case where three people were injured. No arrests have been made so far. The Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, along with the murder and robbery division, is actively investigating the case. Forensic teams remained on-site, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to establish the full sequence of events.

The shooting has raised concerns about security and public safety in Sandton, an area known for its upscale dining and nightlife. Many patrons in the vicinity were left shaken by the violence. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as investigations continue.
