You read it here first. To mark the official launch of the world’s oldest cognac house in South Africa, Martell Cognac will be opening the doors to 1715 – a concept bar come lounge where guests will be able to indulge in fine cuisine, world-class entertainment and, by all means, a swig of cognac.

Located on the ground floor of the Sandton Eye (below the Radisson Blu Gautrain hotel) in the heart of Sandton, 1715 by Martell Cognac opens its doors to the public on Saturday October 17 and will run until November 21. This new space promises to give guests a 3-dimensional experience of the Martell Cognac brand – showcasing beautiful aesthetics, entertainment and cuisine paired with Martell Cognac in mind.

“French art de vivre has always been at the heart of the history of the House of Martell. 1715 by Martell Cognac is all about enjoying life’s true pleasures. It is an invitation to those who love the finer things in life to indulge in the world’s no. 1 Prestige Cognac House.”

– Single Malts and Cognac Brand Manager for Pernod Ricard South Africa, Triya Govender

The French Art de Vivre movement was a period of time in which gastronomy, tasting and craftsmanship were all celebrated and enjoyed with style. Vicky Crease and Caro de Waal, two names synonymous with good food in South Africa, are the culinary masterminds behind the cognac paired food experiences at 1715 by Martell Cognac, with luncheons hosted by the Martell Cognac brand ambassador, which will take place every Wednesday and Friday from 12:30pm – 3:30pm and require a reservation in advance.

Not only will guests enjoy a bespoke menu designed to complement the unique flavours of the cognac but they will also have an opportunity to learn more about the Martell Cognac range. The 1715 by Martell Cognac dining area features the ‘Pluie’ – a bespoke design feature that engages sight and sound. This uniquely designed electronic ‘piano’ is activated by cognac ‘rain’ that falls gently from the ceiling to create harmonies that set the backdrop for a languid lunch.

Another design delight that guests can look forward to seeing at 1715 by Martell Cognac is the Martell Trunk – a unique display piece designed by renowned French luxury malletier, Pinel & Pinel. Endowed with twenty-eight montres that contain the most unique and exclusive blends of Martell Cognac as well as crystal glasses and decanters, rare scented candles and a cigar humidor, this feature is a taste of luxury and craftsmanship.

A uniquely designed, wood and copper bar is a centre piece in 1715’s lounge. Glass tubing filled with golden liquid, running from ceiling to floor, creating the illusion of flowing cognac, serves as the backdrop of the bar. A fine spot for guests to indulge in a range of Martell Cognac expressions that include Caractère, Noblige, Cordon Bleu, and Martell XO. The bar will also boast an extensive range of cocktails using cognac as a key ingredient.

Nothing sets the tone for a good night out like great entertainment. Guests of 1715 by Martell Cognac can look forward to ‘entertainment with a twist’. Old world meets new – jazz artists in collaboration with urban house legends such as Euphonik and Glen Lewis create cool beats that set the mood for a unique cognac experience at 1715.

The Martell House was founded in 1715, at the very height of the French Art de Vivre movement – a culture that infuses every detail of life with know-how, creativity and substance. With its contemporary luxury look and feel, peppered with hints of French elegance and enhanced with bespoke design features, 1715 at Martell Cognac will be a little haven for those who are exuberant and have an indulgent approach to living life.
